Um no.

If the person is a Senior Citizen, chances are they are on MEDICARE (Available to those over age 65) and NOT "Obamacare".

Medicare pays 80%- so, instead of a bill of $13,500, would get a bill instead for the 20% of the cost of the hospitalization.

Medicare does an excellent job of working to identify and reduce the costs of such surgeries- as is found in THIS ARTICLE:

Of course, if there was public information about the costs, people would be more likely to go with better outcome locations with lower costs.

Or they could go overseas, like in Spain, where a hip replacement is about $7,800 dollars. Or MEXICO, where it is less than $3,000.

In the USA- it could range from $20,000 to $60,000 (copay from $4,000 to $12,000).

I'd say Mexico looks like a good bet.

According to AARP your a senior when you turn 50. You could fix it by changing to "middle aged citizen" or adding "not yet eligible for medicare"

When I origionally read the post, until I got to the payment part, I was thinking of Socialism for Patient 3 because my Godmother had to wait between 3-6 months to get a hip replacement in a Scandinavian country but it didn't cost her anything except a lifetime of paying higher taxes. Base on my mother's experience with Medicare, I'd recommend addressing any major issues through your health insurance before you reach medicare eligibility.

The average salary for a Spaniard for 2016 is $23,316.12 a year I don't see anything funny about that charge of $7,800.00 for a knee replacement. My Sister in Law (in Spain) had one 2 years ago and needs the other knee done soon. They are retired and that's Not so cheap for them.
