Black Humor (for RED days.)

How time changes cultures. In the video above notice the "MM" orange sign with arrows pointing right. My grandparents and extended family are from the northern provinces Vizcaya and Navarra (Basque people), your wife is probably well acquainted with the historically fragile territorial situation with the northern Basque provinces. 3+4=1, your wife might know the meaning of that sum. Now let's go get some tacos.

Basque country in the US. Been there, lived there, ate there, Learned about French/Spanish sides of the old-country border, fishing villages in the old country, first and second and older US generations, I've known some of each. Eaten the Old Country fish-based cuisine as well as the US red meat-based cuisine. Learned the sacrifices the families made when the first-gen husband came over to herd sheep, sometimes over 20 years before seeing wife and children again. Restaurants represent 2d and later generations in the US.

Every restaurant is special. I have my faves in various towns. When I finally asked wife half of couple who worked after hours in my office, years ago, where she and her husband were from, I expected the answer to be a location in eastern Europe, based on their accent. Imagine my shock when she told me they were first-gen Basque, and that she was having hard time integrating with the older Basque women in the very small community we lived in, who had been here longer or for several generations already. Culture already changed between the generations.

Australian Bathroom Humor

In Australia, several of the places we visited had fancy "outhouses" for their...ummm..."facilities". They call them "long drops", for reasons I probably don't need to explain. In this particular one, you got a pretty good workout, after using ! :D

New Zealand Bathroom Humor

OTOH, in New Zealand, their "long drops" (see above) were appropriately marked with life-saving information.

Ummmm....how ELSE am I going to get out of the 1-holer outhouse ? Flush myself ??? :D

Stoplight, those are funny! At least you had raised toilets when traveling. When I traveled through Morocco and Indonesia last year, almost all the toilets were squat toilets. The only western style toilets were in the cities or hotels were there was plumbing. The squat toilets usually had a bucket, a hose or large tub of water next to the drop point! You learn to bring a lot of hand sanitizer and tissues when you travel. What I found hilarious was the instructions in the bathroom stalls at the airport in Bali for the proper way to use western toilets. I'll be traveling to India at the end of September....THAT should be interesting. I think they just go in the fields.
