Birchtree's Account Talk

It's time to buy a few flowers: TEX, MTW, MAS. and I have two dividends due. Better days ahead I'm sure.

Oh the pain of it all means buy until it hurts: HP, BZH, GMT, GBX, TKR, KWR, KMT, TEN, GT, KOL. These golden prices may not come around again - I'm holding all my coal stocks to see what will happen with Russia - we can ship as much coal as we can mine.

When is the 'blood in the streets' part?

This market reminds me of a poem we recently taught our granddaughter:

There once was a girl with a very pretty curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead,
When she was good, she was very very good,
But when she was bad she was HORRID.

Happy Trading Birch...

Yes, I caught the royal wipe yesterday knocking -$165K off my base - but no matter. For the month of July I've given back -$343K which wipes out most of my gains for May and June. Ah, but it's still not as bad as May'12 when I gave back -$427K. I still ended up making +$741K for that year, so there is plenty of time left for further gains. And as a long term investor these occassions are actually small blessings that allow me to purchase into my income stream. I have 159 dividends to be reinvested in the next two months mostly I hope at these lower prices - remember income is sustainable. I even caught a 3/2 split on UGI for September. I count my dividend announcement blessings now at 109 ytd with many more to come around. So yesterday will pass into history and I'm still on the trail to wealth. As an investor one has to learn to be tolerant of others' mistakes. I do believe I'll buy some more flowers today.

Secret Squirrel needs some help, please........ considering what happened yesterday please advise if I should change all money into the G fund now? I don't know what all the job numbers mean yet. Thank you

Good job Chief. Put on some Aerosmith today: "Train kept a rolling, all night long!"

I would not go into the G fund - just keep plugging away with the stock funds. This bull market has years to run yet. You are currently being punished because of others' emotions. This pause is actually refreshing and will allow you to accumulate more shares at golden prices. I bought into the storm yesterday and will probably do more buying today - so many wall flowers to collect.

Come to bulldaddy my little wall flowers, buying: CLF, MT, AA, RPM, BBG, SPN, AGCO, CBI. I'm saving a few dollars for next week just in case there are more golden prices. I do believe that August may cancel out July but I'm probably one of the few that think that - being a contrarian is how I make my money.

Thanks for the quick advice Birchtree. I really appreciate it. Now, if I only have money in TSP, and not in the outside stock market, the way for me to accumulate more shares is by moving more money out of the G funds, correct? If so, which funds do you suggest for me to put more into?

Thank you.

I've been waiting for this summertime pull back. Just need to watch the support levels. Could be heading to the 200dma's for SPY and $INDU. Take a bit here maybe and save the 2nd xfer juuuuust in case. Playing just by the RSI the dow doesn't stay maxed out for very long. Not quite oversold on the daily but with the way this market is?
Like your picks there Birchtree. CBI looks like it wants to bounce.

secret squirrel,

If it were my money I'd load up completely on the C fund to include dollar cost averaging with my working contributions. I would just hold my nose and buy. I reinvest 876 individual dividends throughout the year so usually am always buying something every day - actually have six dividends due today - so lower golden pricing is to my advantage. I'm building an income stream that will undoubtedly last longer than I will.

I have a question about sleep cycles and I'm wondering if you can answer it. My understanding is that the average sleep cycle is 90 minutes. What I'm trying to do is figure out exactly how long my sleep cycles are, how many I need, and what I ultimately want to do is convert myself into a morning person, getting out of bed early and having time to workout and do some school work before heading into work. My mind is significantly more active at night, so the whole morning thing is a problem I haven't been able to figure out. I have not been using the Bi-pap, I simply cannot stay asleep with it on.

Some observations:

1) I tend to sleep in 2-2.5 hour blocks, waking up 2-4 times a night for an average of 15-20 minutes each
2) I also try to take at least one 20 minute nap during lunch, if I am tired when I get home then I'll take another 20 minute nap around 1800
3) On those times between sleeps, I tend to get out of bed, carb-load, check the futures, then go back to bed (all done within a zombie-like state.)
4) On most occasions I can be at work anywhere between 7-8 but usually leave work around 1700.
5) I have been trying to go to bed at a consistent time at 23:00 but the recent camping trip threw me off schedule.

The zeros represent the times I've been sleeping, as you can see from the chart my average daily total sleep is 8.18 hours, with an average core sleep of 7.5 hours. I think the Core Cycle numbers are off because I'm not sure I believe I have a 90-minute sleep cycle. What I want to do is get the correct number of sleep cycles and wakup feeling refreshed and energetic. Any help you could provide would be appreciated, while there is plenty of info on the internet, I haven't been able to dig down into my specific issues.

Have you tried having your bi-pap set to automatic. I seemed to be fighting with the two pressure setting on my exhale. Also I have a problem with my breathing timing. Sometimes I would be fighting the old setting until I could relax. The auto setting solved that too. I also have a fan that blows on my face and use a nose cup because a full mask would sweat my face. The fan keeps my face dry and gives white noise to cover the bi-pap noise. I get 5 1/2 hours sleep.

JTH,

After many years of restless sleep with much violence and some times even falling out of the damn bed while fighting, I came upon the answer. I had a dental proceedure done and the dentist gave me diazepam 5mg tab to help me rest. Well it was like I discovered a wonder drug - valium. When I told my primary physcian about my experience he told me that valium relaxes the mind and allows better rem sleep - then he tells me there is an even better drug that one of his Korean War vets has been taking for decades without any bad effects. That drug is called clonazepam 1 mg tab or klonopin. I tried it and sure enough no dreams for me but I did wake up groggy. The valium allows me to be up sharp and krisp - it's my answer to many bad nightmares and the wife is so pleased. So every night now I pop a Valium 5mg tab and I have no dreams and sleep all night. If I end up with a valium addiction who the hell cares at my age, I just want a peaceful sleep. My primary says there is only a remote possibility of dependence. This may not be the answer you were looking for but it works for me like a charm and it's so simple. Valium is so cheap they almost give it away. Pop a valium and see how you respond - you'll probably sleep like a baby.

This week was a wicked week for my oceanic and and even worse month - but no matter, the money will return like it always does. Here's what happened: -$30K, -$26K, -$25K, -$165K, -$29K for a grand give back of -$275K. Well at least I did manage to pick up some nice dividend reinvestments which pumps up my income stream a few more $K. For the month I was out -$343K but still remain positive for the year so far. I expect the rest of the year will be profitable. I will ride out any further consolidation because I can and will wait for the next 50% run.

RHHBY futures are starting to spike after Birch's favorable mention...
