Birchtree's Account Talk

The longest period without at least a 10% pullback was during the 1990-1997 run, at 82 months. We just passed a 1,000 day

Bulldaddy is chasing Ferdinand before I go to mow my lawn: CVG, IVZ, ETH, AGO, HVT, BWP. I may return later for a few more nibbles - until then I'll be sweating for love.

Birchtree, have you seen this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2rg7CeY1ek - it's an interesting video that talks about fractals and spirals and "The Fibonacci Code" (sequence of numbers) - some call it "The Golden Mean/Ratio" or "Phi" - and how "mysterious" it is - because it can be found all over the place (not just in nature) - including the stock market. If you start at the 35:00 mark & watch for a few minutes - I thought you or maybe some of your readers might find it interesting.

The smell of superlative bull manure is definitely wafting today and I'm chasing Ferdinand again: TREX, LPX, CBU, AEE, SAN, HUN, AA, MTG. Mindylou says big numbers coming up for lift off to Dow 18,000. The bigger risk in this bull market is sitting on the station platform waiting for a better entry - and it refuses to comply. It's fun exploring in uncharted territory. Snort.

I see that Chief Heisenberg has been busy while I've been away, fertilizing the fields far and wide. Rather amazed at this bull run, which gives me a sense of caution, so I don't get too giddy.

My oceanic account did OK this week of four trading days: +$32K, +$54K, +$5K, +$48K for a run of +$139K. That's a good start toward my July goal of +$350K. Slow growth is wonderful for an investor. I'm reminded that you have to swing big when it seems outrageous to be doing so. This market is still partying like it's 1995 and I'll be buying next week.

"This is the 7th fastest 1,000 point advance for the Dow. The quickest 1,000 point advance was from 10,000 to 11,000 level back in 1999 at just 24 trading days." The inception of the DJIA was in 1896 in case anyone was wondering.

I'm just waiting on Monday, can't make money when the market is closed. "The stock market is rolling into the second half of the year in stronger shape than many investors dared to hope in January. The Federal Reserve has to be happy to see the labor market continue ti imptove. But the lack of wage pressure means they are going to continue the current path of monetary policy. The turning point will come when wage inflation accelerates. Until then I don't think they will be in a hurry to raise rates." Dow 18,000 might pop up real quick, be prepared to take opportunity.

Alright let's not putz around, buying: CE, TWI, UGI, FCX, MS, JCI, FFG, CDI, EBF. And I'm prepared to buy more - but now I have to go mow that darn lawn.

Bulldaddy says keep your sticky pants on and ride through the coming 10% correction to get to the next big pump up of maybe 50%.

Now this was the most fun I've had in awhile - my oceanic was simply giving it away: -$91K, -$52K, +$20K, -$69K, -$14K for a splendid give back of -$206K. We'll see if Uncle Draghi will come to the rescue and punp in some QE. With more and more central banks buying equities there is an explosion waiting to happen and I'll be right there with my hand open. This bull run is going to continue until there is an inversion of the yield curve - already some are recommending TIPS - but that's way to early in my estimation. So ride through the weakness and wait for daylight - because it's no where finished yet. I'm now -$96K on the month and that can come back quickly like the tides. I may have another buyout going on with my TRW.

Hey Dennis

I was by your neck of the woods last weekend.

Maybe next time.

I knew I could come here and post and possibly get an answer from the MBA. I was wondering about taking my tsp account money and opening a brokerage account. I don't know the stipulations or consequences of doing that, so I'm asking? I'm recently retired and thought I could use the account to purchase my retirement home. My understanding is that you open the account with say $200,000 and I would be able to borrow from the account up to 70% at a low rate and pay myself back. Sorry for the hijack birch but knew you would know something on this matter. Thanks for any info. John
