Birchtree's Account Talk

I had a cub scout with dad ring my bell yesterday. He was about 6 or 7 in uniform and had a wagon full of stuff. Without thinking I said I wasn't interested. So they went next door. Needless to say I had a second thought and called them back and asked if there was anything in there I coiuld buy for $5 - the answer was sorry no. So I said how about if I make a donation to the cub scouts of $5. That was fine and thankyou very much - have a nice day. Boy, did I feel better after that.

nice of ya

Frankly my friends I'll be satisfied with grid lock for the next 14 months. That would be a small price to pay to dump the Obama turd. He knows he has less credibility than yellow back Jimmy. That's his pinky legacy. Hope for Change.

Wet Powder

If and when the VIX breaks below 33 I'm ready to throw more money down the well. Actually the more I spend the more I can spend when in a bull market. The first week of August my oceanic gave up $470K - I'm now working on getting that back and at the same time trying to build my sacrificial lamb chop account. Margin has its benefits but when the pressure is on you have to be ready to accept some dire pain. My base remains intact and now we'll rock - look up and check the flume.

You can't throw money into your TSP because you have been 100% in equities or close to it pretty much since the beginning of time.

Houze that BAC play going for you and Warren? languishing at 7 bux the last I looked. Still overpriced for a stock worth nothing and a whole buncha debt they have no way out of. All yours.

Birchtree, you remember the Reagan era, when Ronald Reagan was President, and Bob Hope and Johnny Cash were still with us?

Well, now we have Obama, no Hope, and no Cash.

Dang, you have no idea how much a realistic looking boy scout uniform goes for at estate auctions these days. I was sure it was worth more than $5 on the street. And wagons aren't cheap neither.

Hey Birch, you like girl scout cookies? Maybe Mindy-Lou could use a little desert after all that stock-picking work? See you next week.

make that 6.4 on your BAC. Lemme know if you see Warren in the bread line. How the heck can BAC be "downgraded"? It hasn't been worth anything in years. Right up there with greek bonds.

Re: Wet Powder

I'll be spending the day backing up and making some sales - we could be looking finally at more capitulation. I'm on the run for today.

Wow, I'm glad i'm on my lilly in the G pond pondering. This is probly the most negative statement I've heard you say.:D

I wonder if it's another fake out, I went 100% SPY on the Fed meeting day, thank goodness not 100% TNA, and then there was massive selling! Right now I'm 100% TZA, but I took about a 15% haircut this week on dumb plays! I bet, it's gonna reverse and I'm gonna get destroyed..... it would be nice to have all those continuous dividends, that would be the dream, regardless of how the market is!

Dumbest play ever: I was so dumb I bought BLOAQ thinking they were Blockbuster, not DISH. I was like, could this be the next SIRI, NFLX and make giant gains? Then I realized it was the shell and the symbols shares could be worthless at any moment! Sold for most of my loss... :(

I'm not too smart, but from a contrarian perspective, I'm thinking that when the biggest bull on this board starts getting bearish, maybe a rally is in the cards...

Re: Wet Powder

As a margin player I've spent my flower power and I'm forced to play give back when the market acts like this - we could easily bounce when common sense prevails but for today the bears are in control and I'm being forced to run. The Dow previous low was 10,604 and SPX at 1101 - I don't think we'll get that low. Perhaps the selloff in gold will help turn equities around - I'll be watching. I'm still bullish but for now caution is the better part of valor. There have been times when the market opened down 300 only to rally back up 100 - there is ample cash to turn the volatility.

I sold off all of my shares of one stock the other day, or so I thought, and ended up with 5 shares that are worth about $30. It will cost me 1/3 of the value to sell the remaining shares. I know it's not much money - I am just trying to tell you that we all do stupid things sometimes.

Damn, the eternal, most positive optimist on the board is showing a little pessimism. What's the world coming to? :)

Re: Wet Powder

I've made 483 individual DCA purchases into my base since August 5th - now comes the reaper. I was trying to buy the bottom and I'll hold the majority of them. The sales I'm prepared to make will all be profitable at this point and then I'll be ready to redeploy my cash that will be building. I'm facing one of the risks of playing on margin so the sacrifices will be made to remain solvent. The sales list has been made and I'm just waiting to see how deep I have to go.

Re: Wet Powder

This definitely sounds like we all need to run for the hills!

Not necessarily. BT may be right. We will start down significantly this morning, but dip buyers may step in and the market may close positive. There is so much volatility right now, that you just don't know what will happen.

I hate those margin calls.
