Birchtree's Account Talk

It's always darkest before the dawn. It is dark out there - real dark. And yet, we should all buy more. I've got 15 dividends due for reinvestment today so I'll get some precious low prices for more shares. This is an accumulation of slow money but I'm not complaining - money is money and money likes more money.

For those uninitiated taphophobia means a fear of being buried alive. According to the most recent government data, today some 50.5 million Americans are on Medicaid, 46.6 million are on Medicare, 52 million on Social Security, 5 million on SSI, 7.5 million on unemployment insurance, and 44.6 million on food stamps, and other nutrition programs. Some 24 million get the earned income tax credit - supplemental income for the working poor. I sure wish I knew how many illegitimate children were getting aid. How much money is being spent on summer lunch programs. How much money is being spent on reduced lunch school programs for the minority at risk population.

A few facts fron TWSJ. "Taking office in 2009, President Obama embarked on one of the greatest reflation bets in history. He deployed the entire arsenal of neo-Keynesian policies to lift domestic demand, much as former White House economist Larry Summers still instructs at Harvard and most of the media still recommend.

So Congress deployed nearly a $1 trillion in stimulus, plus a battalion of temporary and targeted programs; cash for clunkers, cash for caulkers, tax credits for home buyers, 99 weeks of jobless benefits, 'clean energy' grants, susidies to states, and so much more. We were told that every $1 of this spending would conjure $1.50 in new economic output. The Federal Reserve has also more than cooperated by keeping interest rates near-zero for 31 months.

The bet was that with all this stimulus the economy would rebound as it did in the 1980s. Most of Washington and Wall Street believed that Mr. Obama was set up beautifully to inherit a normal recovery, claim victory for his policies, and ride easily to re-election. The problem is that the policies haven't worked. We are left with sklow growth, high unemployment and $4 trillion in new debt." My question is how many illegitimate children are being born because of the government incentive to get on welfare and keep having more children for dollars.

Yeah they should just have to deal with their hunger. Who cares about the fact that some of their parents worked hard until they lost their jobs because of the greed and materialism of a few at the top who at the same ptime go to their pagan churches and look so sad faced and concerned. These poor little imimigrant children ( aka terror babies and anchor babies by Debbie riddle and louis gomert ) should be rounded up and shipped back to wherever their parents came from, AFTER they have their civil and citizenship rights as well as their dignity completely stripped away from them. They are nothing but a drag on society, wholly comprised of rich people who are busy buying, shopping, eating, vacationing and oh of course going to church every Sunday learning about Christmas and the holy trinity and whatever other pagan teaching the church offers. I can't wait till corporate America decides to get rid of these fleas of society then the pagan judeo Christ-mas holier than thou materialistic community here in america can get back to living it up! Shees! Some people, right?

Oh and thanx for the definition for all us, as you put it, stupid ...er I meant "uninitiated" folk.

Afishegg,

Gee, I didn't mean to get under your skin. If 72% of black kids in this country are illegitimate - how many kids is that. More than 80% of homeless families are single mothers. They all need wooden nickles held between their knees. Licentious Democrat policies have ruined the African American family - blame it on the Great Society from LBJ.

Wow, so... how many of the people on the government dole are ACTUALLY NEEDY? If you believe 100%, well, nevermind...

And to be honest. If the government would quit spending so much money on the 'needy' then maybe we wouldn't need to have such oppressive taxes, allowing us to spend that money and therefore put people to work. Our societies rediculously high expectations are creating (or has created) a generation that thinks they should own a house, a car, expensive things just after graduating high school... Seriously, I could go on based on anecdotal evidence and facts but I have better things to do. If you don't see this happening, you are living under a rock...

If you want to help people so much, give all your money to charities and live in poverty yourself; like He did. I wonder if you even have a charitable deduction on your taxes. Oh, and which political type of person donates the most... hazard a guess???

OBTW, businesses are not in business to create jobs; they are in business to MAKE MONEY. Jobs are a by-product...

Ok, time to go take a walk and remind myself to stay out of these idiotic political discussions with people who want to give all their productivity to the government because THE GOVERNMENT KNOWS BEST...

pergatory, here I come... again

Sorry Birchtree, you're a Great American!

I still like you, Birch.

How is the garden doing?

Birch,
I'm a different man -- really am -- and thrilled for the change.

I'd say if we dealt with the 'specifics' of any program - anyone of the thousands eating away the money - that each one would have to offend any and all attached to it. I don't think it makes any difference what particular group is most reaping the perks supplied. If one race or gender is more attached to any particular one - is not the issue - they are simply the ones most benefitting from a program the Government offers.

Burrocrat asked which programs we should cut back on?

I believe it would be too difficult to select one over another - (and picking any group simply shows a bias stance). The best thing is simply to make a reduction in every single one of them - say a 10% reduction. Then there is no 'bias' and one group will not feel 'singled out'. Let that ride for awhile - then make another reduction (maybe 5%) and put a better screening system in place.

Well - my Sticky Pants are the heavy duty variety - much more expensive but guaranteed to keep you in place for the long run.

Even a 1% cut (an actual cut, mind you) would be better then this bill.
All it does is slow the growth they had projected and there really is no guarantee of that.

FAB1,

I just picked my last bunch of green beans and polished off my last two tomatoes. All I have left now are carrots and I'll be pulling some this weekend. I think I'll plant tomatoes in containers this fall so if I get a freeze I'll just take them into the garage. I'm not going to do much in the garden this spring because I'll be back and forth from North Carolina - going to land me a lake place. I missed most of the down side action today because I was mowing my back lawn and pulling weeds - but the hit wasn't all that bad. I may start looking over my lamb chop portfolio incase I need to scramble but I have plenty of buffer yet.

I believe we have triggered a Dow Theory sell signal - but I'm going to ignore it for the moment. A death cross would be a different story. The last hurdle would be cleared for a sell signal if both Dow averages close below their May-June closing lowes, which are 11,897.27 (11,866.62) and transports at 5060.95 (4942.27). Should I cut and run - no way but I am looking at my lamb chop account as my escape hatch if I need one. A positive slope on the 200-day moving average does not mean the market will be easy to navigate, but it does mean the odds still favor bullish outcomes over bearish outcomes - time will tell.

We are placing a nice kangaroo tail right now - get ready for the bounce that is coming off all this negative sentiment.

It's a happy day for the long term investor that is interested in accumulating shares. My daughter will gain more shares this week in her Roth 401K plan and my wife will get more shares in her defined contribution plan - this foolish selling is an opportunity for many dollar cost averging types. I'm holding the thin blue line.

This is really sobering, my balance is back to where it was in January................if only I had transferred to F fund a few weeks ago. Thanks BT so being so optimistic about the market, I dont want to lock in my losses at this point.

There is no reason here to panic like the youngsters managing money for hedge funds - they do this nonsense all the time. They are however helping to lower the budget deficit because they'll pay taxes on their gains. So let'em sell their hearts out - soon they'll have to run to get back in eating hoof dust all the way back up. I'm still not feeling any anxiety yet - though the market has my attention. Only one dividend due today - maybe more tomorrow so I can accumulate more shares. There are so many companies increasing their payouts.
