Birchtree's Account Talk

Sitting here with my feet up, catching my breath and taking my hits. It's a good day to relax. I've spent my cookies until next week so we'll see how much damage I've done. It's early in the day yet so any dip buying could push us back to level - although I'd like to feel a small crush in preparation for the NFP numbers.

that'll be great for large/small/Nasdaq... but also another spike in the dollar. Mr Market, can I have a mulligan on my last IFT that put 33% in the I fund? :)

Birch,
I sense this is what he was going to say:

Hi, I'm kind of new here and you look like a guy that's had years of investment experience and I would imagine -- your knowledge is amazing.

How long have you been investing ??

It is something you're gifted in from the very start ?

or did you go through some trials and learn with a few hard knocks ?

Sincerely,
Pokerstar

The fine folks at Barclays are predicting a NFP number of 450,000. That'll rock some socks.

I've noticed some folks are trying to alter the expectations, this looks like a ripe setup for a pump & dump. Bring on the pain I needs me some share accumulation.

perhaps a goldilock NFP number would make for a quick turn in the dollar favorable to the I fund? anything too hot from NFP will sky rocket the dollar. Goldilocks, make me some porridge, beiotch.

Great article. Reminds me of myself. I lost everything in the 2000 crash with my solid dot.com stock portfolio and then took a huge hard hit in 2008. I parked everything I had in G and there it sits. I joined this site 2 days ago with a plan to better educate myself and gain the wisdom from others and hopefully I can maximize my TSP prior to retiring in another 11 years. So here I am and I'm ALL EARS.

"Their biggest risk: dying broke." You're right on that one. Sometimes they've got to just dive in. They'll sink for a time, it is certain, but they will swim, that too is certain. When they hit a good wave they'll learn to stay with stocks. At least put a sizable chunk of their money in them. They pay off. Like me, you don't have to go totally stocks to make money. Occasionally yes, go deep, but you can keep one foot on the shore. That's what's good about the TSP. (Am I really complementing the TSP?) The sooner you go into the market the better to get used to the lingo, it's subtleties, the advice, the clues, etc.

"The only way younger investors will have enough assets to last them is to invest in stocks. In the wake of the market meltdown of 2008, investors under age 35 are shunning stocks in stunning numbers. Their biggest risk: dying broke."

You sound like a perfect fit for this group.

Birch, this is my newest 'friend' -- and you know not many can acquire such a status -- but this guy is 'cool' -- he's one of us.

Birch and I both took HUGE hits ourselves over the years ... in the long run FEAR is our worst enemy -- seriously --- and nothing keeps us from raking in the money more than that.

3/09 to 12/09 everyone (except for one) said there is no way in hell this upturn can last ... anyone IN (except for one) was peeing their pants and jumping to the Lilly Pad and pointing and laughing at anyone still in...

It was a hard time for Birch -- and when you're the only one in the entire Universe staying fully invested --- while all the others are mocking you ... it can be a tough situation.

But Birch held on ... and the Markets kept going up ... and going up and going up .....

So this is most certainly one of the main threads you want to visit.

"Getting rich investing...no special skills required."

I've made considerable money off the 3/9/09 low while making 948 individual stock DCA purchases all the way back to June 2010. Now I'm anticipating making serious money tomorrow if the NFP numbers are kosher - maybe something in the money realm of $80K. The small caps have been eating my lunch the past few days but that is healthy - sometimes no pain means no gains. I certainly feel the $2M mark is in my future - that's off the 3/9/09 lows. Snort.

I decided to lighten up on the close tomorrow - 30G/25C/45I. If we catch a rocket ride there will undoubtedly be a small consolidation coming in the next week or so and then I'll buy my 30G back in. My plan is then to DCA my way out in small 5% increments to the end of January then load up again for February. I know I'm hedging by not getting all the way out but that's how I'll play it with my money.

Steady, you took the words out of my mouth :) I do admit that I'm new to all this investing stuff, but I've learned so much in these past couple years that I'm confident I'll have a HUGE tsp account upon retirement.
Thank you all for sharing your knowledge with me.

:)Poker:)

Mr. Long-azz-hat instituted the IFT restrictions without my permission, him and his minions are thieves, and cheats. I wasn't even offered the opportunity to vote or get a refund. I reserve a special place for them in the deepest region of my black cold dead heart...*BURN IN HELL*
Youre not upset or anything are ya JTH??

I decided to cancel my IFT for today until sometime next week. I thought the NFP number would be much larger than 107,000.
