Birchtree's Account Talk

The Hulbert Survey has gone from 68.8% at the beginning of January to 0% - that means very few are investing - all platform sitters. Contrarians celebrate when everyone else is gloomy. I've given back -$342K in the last three weeks - I know that's not pretty but sometimes you just have to accept the pain. I haven't sold anything so it's all a paper loss - but if Draghi gives us a nice surprise we'll be moving much higher - it's time for patience to be a virtue.

We could be in a "buy the rumor, sell the news" scenario.

The day is designed to scare the Allah out of you - try not to over react. Sometimes slow money is the best money. I have 4 dividends to be reinvested today and I'll take lower prices and more shares. It all adds up into my income stream. Volatility seems to be here for awhile - no rate hikes on the horizon.

Today is one of those rare occurrence days when I have no dividends to be reinvested. I have two tomorrow and eight on Friday. It might be time to buy some HAL. I've received 15 dividend increase announcements ytd - only 160 more to go.

This market feels like it is just percolating below the surface before a stupendous eruption develops - don't be in a rush - learn before you churn. A properly allocated portfolio doesn't need to be rejiggered every time the weather changes. There is so much fear causing investors to sit on the sidelines, this bull market has a long ways to run as they gradually warm up to taking risks again - no fear here.

My Hanesbrands (HBI) just announced a 4 for 1 stock split - I'll take it. No need to be proud at a moment like this. I expect several more stock splits before 2015 ends.

I'm catching a few energy nibbles today: HP, HAL, FCX. There is still a huge amount of skepticism about the equity market rally. I'm thinking we'll have a third speculative phase. Yup, the bull market no one but bulldaddy believes in.

I believe!

May take a bit of patience but I think 2015 will be a strong year.

It was the week that was and the month was even worse. Here is how my oceanic acted this week: +$76K, -$31K, -$138K, +$68K, -$83K for a not so pleasant give back of -$108K. I'm going to build some cash next week and start dollar cost averaging some of my weaker positions. I just can't stanz it no more - I need more commodities now that they are so cheap. I'll be buying steel, oil, coal and a few other favorites that are being given away. I've waited long enough and I need more pain for 2015.

Hi Birchtree, I've never heard you like this...you actually sound a little bummed. But hey... 2015 will be an awesome year!! Start buying tons of those wallflowers you love. I sometimes think you buy stock to make you feel happy......kinda like when I go clothes shopping!! Best wishes!!

P.S. I love these new moving thing-a-ma-jigs!! I'm going to use them everywhere!! :ban: :1244:

I don't think rates are going up this year, but if they do a one and done I have no fear of the Fed. The S&P 500 has risen in most periods when the Federal Reserve boosts interest rates. For example back in Dec. 2003 - July 2007 the gain was 46.9% Also Oct. 1986 - Sept. 1987 the gain was 43.4%. There are other periods of gains but I don't want to bore you. Well alright, one more for fun. July 1961 - Nov. 1966 saw a gain of 47.5% I'd be buying all the energy I can right now.
