Birchtree's Account Talk

Re: Birchtree's account talk

Ferdinand, shall we be a buyer today? Do we want to take unfair advantage and pursue the opportunities created by all that stupid panic selling. Well, why the heck not. Today is a perfect day to pick up some more delightful wall flower bargains. Goin shopping again.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

Birch,

Quick request:

Can you tell me the top 5 dividend paying stocks in order of best buys right now?

Re: Birchtree's account talk

I wish I could but the dividend yields are changing on a daily basis as stock prices begin to accelerate. There are so many to choose from.

Until last Tuesday's big gain (889), the Dow had seen six one-day advances of 10% or more, half of them in the 1930s. Two occurred early in new bull markets, helping mark the end of long declines. But four - including the 11.1% surge of Oct. 13, a few weeks ago - were wiped away by later declines, and proved to be temporary rallies in longer term bear markets.

No worries, I think tomorrow's market will be as stagnate as today's with most eyes on the election. It may start to swing on early numbers depending on the preliminary reports. I'm starting to look at a few stocks for quick hits tomorrow.

If you have a few you are looking at and wish to share, let me know!

Re: Birchtree's account talk

Thanks SB, I've been looking at DUK for a good month now. I really get a turn-off from Cramer. I don't know whether or not to trust him. Sometimes it seems he puts a curse on some of his picks.

I have friends who call themselves the Cramer-contrarians. They always seem to bet against him.

Thanks for the link though!

I've got DUK in my ROTH and I've read articles and heard from financial type people, other than Cramer, that DUK is a good one to have right now and long term for that matter.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

Frixxx,

A few high payers that I personally have added to recently are: (ATN) Atlas Energy Resources at $22.09 yielding 10.3%, (APL) Atlas Pipeline $17.95 yielding 21.4%, (ATB) Arlington Tankers $9.72 yielding 23.1%, (BDN) Brandywine Realty $8.64 yielding 20.4%, (DSX) Diana Shipping $16.63 yielding 17.7%, (FPO) First Potomac $12.28 yielding 11.1%, (CLP) Colonial Properties $10.54 yielding 19.0%, (GMR) General Maritime $15.15 yielding 13.2%, (DRE) Duke Realty $14.11 yielding 13.7%. Those are just a few.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

Thanks CB and Birch,

I have Duke and Atlas Pipeline on my radar.

I had about twenty different ones to look at but Birch gave me a few more. I have to do some homework tonight to finalize my decision.

looks like the markets aren't liking the OBAMA lead right now and I'm thinking some really good entry orders might be the way to go.

Thanks again!!!!!

Re: Birchtree's account talk

I only made six stock purchases today but plan about ten more bites tomorrow. My total around this bottom is now 244 individual buys.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

"Bear markets, above all else test investors' resolve. It is especially during extended market drops lasting more than one year that investors can succumb to such an extreme level of pessimism that they will likely no longer continue to invest regularly, or continue whatever their prior strategy might have been. Needless to say, bear markets can cause many people to leave the market. And once they do, they may take many years, if ever, to come back."

Investors withdrew a record $70.7 billion from U.S. stock mutual funds in October, according to data compiled by Trim Tabs Investment Research. Redemptions by individual investors and institutions jumped 26 percent from the previous high of $56 billion in September. I'm so glad to know this because they can take years before they consider getting back into the market - that's bullish.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

As we talked about earlier this morning, Japan appears to be having
a bounce back rally after losing -5.00% on Monday. The Nikkei is up
+3.74% and the USD/YEN is down -0.59%. Lets hope it holds and
Europe gives us a follow up boost after 3:00am est. as the USD/EUR
looks good as well -0.25%. Good Luck Birch. ;) Austrialia is hurting
us a bit for now.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

I just finished making 22 individual stock purchases for a total now of 266. The market is causing me to chase the train today but that's fine. Sometimes you pay more and sometimes you pay less - but this rally is sweet.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

I just finished my last ten purchases for today for a total now of 276 around this current bottom. The kitty is starting to run on low fumes - I may have to sweet talk my inhouse banker for support to finish my buy program. Although I do have some nice gains off the October 10th low I could take a profit or two. I really can't afford to do any selling until after the first of the year. There is no way to escape my capital gains tax this year. On October 10th the S&P kissed 829 at its lows that day. The 836 level represents a price where one half of the S&P's price move from 1980 to present was wiped away. It is definitely bargain time for the courageous.

Re: Birchtree's account talk

I feel like I've just be warmed with a golden shower of bull tinkey - perhaps this will be a $100K day. If we get the surprise of a BigMac win ....can the evangelical right out number the single black female turn out. Tomorrow could easily be historic in nature with a 1000 point rally. I'm ready to absorb anything this market wants to deliver. You simply have to be in to win. I noticed several lilly padders jumped in today - that's a harbinger of better things to come.

Is that where they came up with the saying "Tinkey Toes" or was
everyone trying to tell me to change my socks. $100k, good for you
if it all goes right. :)

For me, it will be the greatest single day gain I've ever recorded since
I started to abuse the IFT procedure. Something tells me the (I) Fund
Managers allow a small underperformance as opposed to the EFA. That
would add more Deficit "they owe us" in my O/D Tracker. They might
even bring the deficit to double digits. In the past, that meant a nice
payback within a couple of days. But if they keep all things even, we
just had a marvelous, well deserved and long awaited for day. :)
Hell, we had that in any case ! Congratulations !
