I have that fixed but I have no idea where it went wrong.

If anyone suspects other returns being wrong, please let me know. My return and all of the premium returns are matching my spreadsheet.

Hey Tom,

Sorry if this has already been asked elsewhere, but, are you going to do the TSP March Madness brackets again this year?

Hi Tom,

I'm a new member.

In the beginning of the year, I made a plan to contribute $2,750 for the first four pay periods and $250 for the subsequent 22 pay periods bringing my total contributions to $16,500. The goal was to frontload the contributions while at the same time maximizing my matching contributions.

On Feb 19, I changed my contribution from $2,750/pp to $250/pp on employee express. I thought this would take effect in pp5. When I received my pp5 check, $2,750 had been contributed again to my TSP account.

Now I don't have enough room to contribute 5% on my salary for the rest of the year. It looks like I will not be able to contribute for the last 10 pay periods or so if I contribute 5% of my salary. This will cause me to leave ~$2,000 in matching contributions on the table. :(

I contacted my payroll administrator, who told me that they would contact the TSP administrator to either reverse or adjust my pp5 contribution to $250. I was told shortly thereafter that they could not reverse contributions for prior pay periods.

I was wondering if there was any way that my prior period contribution could be reversed or adjusted down to $250.

Many thanks in advance.

In gratitude and agony,
ETFnerd

Welcome ETFnerd! I have to admit that I have never heard of this situation before but I can see where you'd be concerned.

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you, but I will copy this post into the general questions area, where you will likely get more views and responses from other members.

Post copied here ... http://www.tsptalk.com/mb/showthread.php?t=6967

You might also want to post in the member's introduction area and explain your situation.

In the meantime, I will try to find something online that might help. Good luck.

Tom, When I click on the Stats Drop Down Menu, I see the selections
with no problem; "View More" and "Turn Off". But when I click on the
"View More" selection, the page jumps to the "FAQ Smilie List" page
instead.

This may be unrelated to the above problem, however, at the very top
of the page, an error is documented as follows;

Maybe this might help you resolve the page jump problem. ;)

I'm new to the board, so excuse me if this is a stupid question. I'm worried about the market, so I was wondering if there is any way to invest in gold short of withdrawing my TSP funds (and paying the associated penalties) and buying gold directly. I realize the answer is probably no, but I had to ask. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Bryce

Welcome Bryce. I am afraid you are correct, the answer is no, and that is disappointing. Bonds and cash are just not good enough hedges for our retirement savings during a bear market and we need a gold or commodities type investment option - or a fund that gives us the ability to short the market.

I hear they are revisiting the REIT fund, which is nice, but that would not have helped us during the last 1.5 years either.

Thanks for the reply Tom. I've been in G fr quite a while now, so I missed the recent upturn. Is it time to get back in? I was thinking the 2030 fund.

Tom,

As stated in http://www.news.com.au/business/story/0,27753,25301628-14334,00.html, "Defense contractors rose as Defense Secretary Robert Gates said overnight that his recommended budget would "profoundly reform'' military spending, calling for cuts to major weapons programs such as F-22 fighter jets.

Lockheed Martin rose 8.87 per cent to $US73.28 dollars, Northrop Grumman jumped 9.00 per cent to $US47.94 and Boeing gained 1.25 per cent to $US38.16."

How come the defense contractors would go up on that news?

Because they are using the Old Switch-a-ro, fire gov't workers and hire contractors, More expensive but another pot of money.

Hmmm... I have no idea. Any particular thread? Have you tried to open a new browser? You might try deleting your temporary internet files too.

Let me know.

Thanks

Tom, hate to bother you, I signed up for Scribbler's service on 1May, paid through pay-pal for one year. Site doesn't recogonize me after signing on. Should I wait a couple of days longer?

Thanks, Snake719

No bother. Access should have been instant. That usually means you missed the last step on PayPal to activate the subscription (PayPal has to tell us you paid).

I'll take care of it. You should have access within a few minutes. I'll also make today your start date.
