Any Problems with New Version?

I use this site by perusing through the new posts every day and gathering information from everyone's posts... I don't just monitor certain threads. Today, whenever I tried to pull up a post, a huge ad block popped up on my screen and I spent alot of time scrolling past the ad to get to the post I was interested in. Since I am a government worker, I don't feel like I can spend that kind of extra time on a daily basis...so I'm afraid if this is a permanent condition, that I won't be able to use the site as much as I would like... For this reason, I'd much rather pay a yearly fee, so that I can continue to benefit from everyone's input. Just voicing my opinion...

Thanks again Russell. Were you logged in when you saw the ad? I know the script does give a bigger ad for those not registered, but the ad in the 2nd post for registered users shouldn't be any bigger than the one at the top of the page. Plus I eliminated the large ad at the bottom of the page.

I am a little surprised by the reaction since it seemed discreet enough to me. I definitely don't want it to be too obtrusive, but just out of curiousity, can you make sure you are logged in and take a look at this page as an example... http://www.tsptalk.com/mb/showthread.php?t=3873.

I am not trying to be argumenative, or defensive. I just think maybe we aren't seeing the same thing. I don't see a "huge ad block popping up ... that takes time to scroll past." Certainly nothing that would discourage me or take up any more time, but please let me know what you see.

Again, I apprecaite the the feedback. I will look into the small fee for no ads programming.

Anyone else? Do the ads seem large to you?

Thanks!
Tom

That looked fine Tom...and yes today I saw that the ads were smaller if logged in. I think part of my problem was that I keep the site minimized on my computer all day long and go back and forth to it as my day permits to catch up on posts... I'm not sure what the time limit is, but I get logged off after a certain amount of time, so when I get back on I'm a "guest" user again and then experience the problems. Before this version, that didn't affect my "quick" access to posts, I only needed to make sure I was still logged on to post something myself. So yes, it's an inconvenience to "my way" of using the site, but I understand if I'm in the minority as to willingness to pay a fee...

I must be the odd man out because I have not seen one single pop up ad. I have pop up blocker but have not heard anything out of it.

Yes, the non-registered member ads are a bit obnoxious with that added message suggesting you register. I can change that code I believe. I'll try it now.

When on my Govt computer today I saw NO ads, when I got home there they were. Must be blocked at work, something new for me, now i'm missing some clicks!! What's the problem, getting distracted or cramps in your fingers? Sissys!:notrust: Don't ya just love a good nnuut?:D

Yeah, blocked, but they use to have a dark blue notice over the ad, like BLOCKED BY USAF -------etc, now they are just gone!

Mine ain't blocked!.....Retired and Loving it!.....:D :D :D ..... The new version is humming right along!

One more thought on advertisements. I had someone comment to me a while back that the people on this message board were in general an intelligent group and they are probably too smart to click on ads.

I was a little confused by this statement. The advertiser pays all the costs. It is all supervised by Google (in my case) so all ads are approved and clean (no spyware, etc.) You might find something of interest, and it helps to keep a site in business.

I'll bet close to 80% of the people who found TSP Talk did so through a Google or Yahoo link somewhere on the internet. So, if you see an interesting ad on the internet somewhere, don't be afraid to visit the site. If you don't like what you see, just hit the back button. It's all good. :)

Yeah, like I said earlier, it only takes a couple seconds to click on an add.

If your not interested in the ad itself, at least click on them from time to time to help generate income for the site.

God Bless:)

Yeah, I was able to go in and change the code so that small ads appear whether you are logged in or not. I hope that makes scrolling the board a little easier.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I have not been able to pull up Tom's new comments for today. When I logged on to TSPTalk.com and clicked the Market Comments link, I continue to get the January 26 comments. I have tried refreshing which did not change anything. I figured Tom was just a little late in getting his comments up this morning, but I just checked my email and realized I got the Alert "TSP Talk - Busy Week on Tap" which starts off with the first few lines of the January 29 Comments and a link to the comments page. Even following this link brings me right back to the January 26 comments. Am I missing something?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Tom, can you just rehash for me real quick whether the Trader Fred system is in buy or sell mode, and/or any changes you may have made to your account.

Hi Q -
Sounds like a cache issue. First things first - Fred is still on a sell signal.

But try this:
Go to the comments page and then hold down the ctrl-key and at the same time, hit the refresh button on your browser. That will attempt to bypass the system's cache and look for any new updated page.

Let me know. Thanks,
Tom
