A Study of Your Returns

Now Griffin prove your case about unwanted interruptions with facts instead of surmising on emotion and speculation.

The unwanted interuptions is up to the indvidual - respect their wishes if they tell you they are not interested in your opinion.

But I can give you an example of what I mean about being a conversation killer

Those are recent examples. He probably wanted something more outdated.

Start thumping your chest threadkilla. We're talking about ya!

Desperado does make a valid point. We need to make sure that we are evaluating ourselves to make sure that the time and effort spent trend trading our TSP is truely worth the effort. He also says we need to continue the analysis - look at next year's result as well. It is easy for me to decide to continue the trend trading because I'm one of the lucky monkeys. If I was at the bottom of the list, I'd either have to figure that what I was doing was wrong or that my strategy was not right for the way the market unfolded. If I get to the point where I spend too much time on my trading or I'm not doing well, I'd also consider abandoning my own system in favor of an aggressive buy and hold or else follow someone with a track record who was doing the work.

I also know that the first year I aggressively traded, I didn't do so hot (luckily for me it was on paper for the first 6 months). There was a learning curve involved. That could also be playing into the analysis -- many are new and may still be learning.

Anyway, just thought I'd add that criticism is good and healthy. Self examination is also appropriate.

Talk all you want Ms. Aspartame. I've been patiently waiting. You'll have to do better than Mr. Pedantry. Frankly when you pull back the covers both of you are demonstrating affectation that is suggesting envy. That's understandable - compare my results to yours.

There is no such thing as a conversation killer....unless one personally allows it. I enjoy reading all the posts and the tread expansion that occurs.

I would argue that the MB has turned into the worlds largest TSP blog, and we are able to take raw information, turn it into knowledge, and from knowledge comes power. Blog on...

blog

Definition

blog A frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and Web links. Information

A blog is often a mixture of what is happening in a person's life and what is happening on the Web, a kind of hybrid diary/guide site, although there are as many unique types of blogs as there are people

Desperado,

Why not show your face when your here?

!

Perhaps because it gets stomped on when I show up and post data that is unpleasant for many to read. So many posts here are filled with frivolous banter, unsupported opinions, and discussion of random market noise. I actually post something meaningful that could likely benefit many TSP investors and I get responses like this:

Who let the Grinch in?

I want to see how many monkeys get hit with the darts. (Okay, I have to admit, that one was kind of funny.)

lets cut the numerical psycho-babble

Go GET HIM Boys!

It's people like this that have me longing for a prolonged bear market...............

just plain ignorance...Causey suggests "leaving your money to the pros"...hahaha...

Desperado - why don't you come to your senses?

The folks who criticize market timing are almost always beholden to Institutional Wall Street which does it best to discourage us foolish individuals from trying to manage our own investments.

Alright!! You tell them REV!!

Desperado: After re-reading your post, I agree you are a simpleton.

Desperado..

C'mon. There is no doubt in my mind who this is (Mike Causey).

Desperado is just pissed off he has to pay for his stock trades. On behalf of this entire message board of dedicated hard working Federal Government Employees well vested in TSP... thanks for paying for ours.

he sounds like a 'buy and hold' evangelist to me. No skin in the game

Man Newbie you crack me up, how much are you making this year in the TSP?

guys and gals, seriously, let's stop wasting our time and energy on someone that that can't see our point of view. We're the open minded ones and will reap the benefits. If Desperado really wants to learn (which I doubt is his real intent), he'll do so with an open mind.

Desperado, did you really observe all these things or could it be you are dwelling in the percepton as reality paradigm, whereby what you feel about something becomes the reality in lieu of the facts.

I think I can say that there is no agreement with Desperado!
With all that has been said, futher comments would be like beating a dead horse!
Why not, let the thread just die out!

Then you wonder why there aren't more TSP investors posting here.

A valid criticism. But how would you like to find out that I'm right after 10 years?

But then again, how would you like to find our you are wrong? And ultimately, you have not clearly identified what you are specifically "right" about, other than a general statement that buy and hold is better than what you define as timing.

However, as you are confident in your "theology" of "buy and hold", then the next step is to identify your allocations, thus establishing what you say is true over time.

Those who you "study" have.

The rational that this is only part of your investment portfolio is thin, and irrelevant to this discussion.

Any approach that is offered as valid must stand the fires of public scrutiny...

Desperado,

Believe me, I am well aware of the psycho-babble, frivolous jaw-jack, and liquid excrement of the mouth that takes place here. I appreciate your analysis, I just more concerned about your motivations while writing it.

*Warning thread starting to stray.....Threadkilla....Threadkilla....Where are you?

Hey Vic! You said "Dayu" trading.
Sounds like trading martial art... I LIKE IT!

also, Mayday,

it's serious, but it's fun, seriously fun...

the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Sky what makes it fun is this board other than that it would be pretty mundane

Hey ya'll, make no mistake I AM the buy and hold evangelist - how about some of that disdain for me - I'm deserving too you know. Sometimes negative attention is just as healthy as special and spoiled. But I do try not to crap where I eat. Why did I just pick up over 138 views in an hour - is this better than Grey's Anatomy?

I think you're paying waaaay too much attention to views. Go take a walk or something..................:D

Most likely the "can't take your eyes off a car wreck" syndrom anyway.........:p

Your one of a kind Birch you'll never change and we love it.

Mayday,

Brother, you better lock your doors. The sour grapes brigade is on the way. High black boots and whips. They like to deliver but not receive. I always leave my doors unlocked - I'm into pain from way back - it builds character, ask any distance runner. I'm just now catching my second wind. Snort.

I don't think this is really a quandry most people entertain. It seems that there is significant TSP invester participation.

This is a forum... a free enterprise zone of ideas if you will.

If you accept the risk of submitting your ideas, expect any number of responses from any number of perspectives. Don't feel hurt because you are not validated by all the responses. If your purpose is to educate and provoke thought, then you have been wildly successful.

If you need to be validated, then you have likely come to the wrong place. But then, you probably knew that anyway...

Here's a novel idea Desperado;
January 2007 is right around the corner.
Create those two account forums:
"Desperado Account"
"Desperado Account Talk"
Join the board and show us what you got. You appear to be quite intelligent and knowledgeable.
Help us all out, and show us how it's done.
And for the sake of America... stop cracking on everyone who doesn't agree with your investment strategies.
With that being said, and you know you love it here...
Welcome to TSPTalk. :)
