350z says "real inflation has obviously been on the rise". Now he may be correct, but I've been searching for inflation for the last three years and have yet to find the critter. It's not in the euro-zone at 1.7%, it's not in import prices at 1.8%, it's not under my bed, it's not in the core PCE at 1.8%, it's not in wage growth, it's not in Treasury rates, even the Libor rate is dropping, it's certainly not in home prices, it's not in GPD, it's not in gasoline, crude oil has still yet to bleed into the economy. Gold, yes, gold has appreciated but do to consumer demand from India and China - not as a result of inflation. I'll remain vigilant and keep searching - even corn and ethanol will settle back. There's no inflation in the dollar or export prices. Maybe inflation will show up in natural rubber - just go slow when on the go.

I ment GDP - there is also no inflation in Japan. They are begging for some inflation and are actually on the verge of deflation in their economy. Even the ECB is considering a rate reduction - they obviously see no inflation. Where is this critter hiding?

Birchtree,

Libor rate dropping? It's not in gasoline prices? It's not in home prices? There's no inflation in the dollar?

Are you being sarcastic or are you just being an idiot?

I'm trying to be both. So where is the inflation critter? Could it be in the Dow Jones when we approach 15,600. Is it in the Shanghai Composite?

Your property taxes provide you an opportunity to get a deduction against earned income - be thankful. Plus you are helping education. We get PPI and CPI tomorrow - so patience is virtuous.

Whew!, Birch, you had me going there, I've been looking at houses in really nice newly developed neighborhoods in the 2-300k range. They really seem nice at first but underneath they are really peices of crap. Maybe thats where the critter is hiding,....... I think I'm taking some of this too seriously!

If the builder would knock off $75,000 you'd have some value. They got big profit margins being made on our friends labor from Mexico. Let these big builders squirm a little, they'll come around like Hovnanian did. Don't buy until their pupils get really big. Then they'll give you a VW.

I'd rather have the cash in my pocket than the deduction, thanks anyway. And, there is little correlation between dollars spent and quality of education. Case in point; the District of Columbia spends more per capita on education than nearly anywhere else in the country, yet continue to score at the bottom year after year.

Like my wife says "You can't get blood from a turnip". Look what they have to work with. Nothing can help that.

And you know why - it's a battle zone. They encourage truancy so at least those interested in a learning environment have a small opportunity. A case for school vouchers if there ever was one.

Exactly. Higher taxes do not insure ( or necessarily promote) better education. However, I don't mind paying for safe buildings and fair salaries, those things which are essential. Heck, I'll even throw in the breakfast program.

But how much of what we are spending is non essential and really non-education related? The end result is teachers earn less, and have less actual resources to work with.

One big problem is laws and regulation on schools. You wouldn't believe what hoops they have to jump through. It's amazing the teachers get anything done. Their hands are tied.

Speaking of inflation, buy milk lately?
And what’s this about core??? I mean every thing that’s required to live by is not considered core and that includes education!!
Sorry, I don’t eat steel!
I’m so confused, I don’t buy corn anymore, I just don’t know if I should eat it or distill it and put it in my car?
(Not a Newbie any more!!!! he-he-he)
