350Z's 2007 I Fund Thread

With the way asia sold off last night, the I fund is almost a NO BRAINER. The only problem is tomorrow's housing news, which will drive the dollar down anyway to cushion any sell off.

The I fund will be the safeest place to gamble for tomorrow and the F fund will be the safest overall.

F#$@, It's not looking good. Now I'm thinking I should have gone to the F fund. Damn deadline.

Buying 20 shares -.12 GOOD:nuts:

The other 3000 shares valued at -.12 BAD

You lost me at that... It is good if you bought in for tomorrow, but bad if you got out today, right ?

I had a knee-jerk reaction to the -.12 FV. I'm 100% I in my civil service retirement. I have 25+ years until retirement. I hate it when the numbers mess with my retirement forecast.....But then, don't we all!:o

I thought it is good to buy in when a -FV is assessed?

Confused.

The -FV works in your favor if you bought in for tomorrow. However, the price is devalued for a reason. It's not like the shares are "on sale" and you got a bargain. We may be paying a high price if the markets drop hard.

IMO, Asia is poised to bounce up. I hope it happens. (looking to the heavens)

Thanks.

Still learning, but having fun (unless the markets tank tomorrow:notrust:)

Welcome to the site Malyla, this is the best place to learn. You were dead on if you elected to buy in tomorrow. Just from my short few months here on the site, I can tell you that 350z, JayHawker, and ebbnflow are the one's I've seen do very well at their predictions as well as keep us "underlings" abreast of market developments. Also, watch the trackers to see who played the right formula.

Thanks. I love this site and have been peeking in since Feb. My whole focus is to avoid being in the market when another recession hits. 2000-2002 killed my retirement fund. I was too ignorant to get out while everyone was saying that it was best to stay in as the long term investment will pay off. I have done the calculations (thanks Tom) and I didn't just lose ~50K over three years (I even posted a loss for the year 2002 even including the addition of my contributions - that hurt), I lost the potential return of 66% (since June 2003) on that ~50K.

This is all about retiring with enough to enjoy life (travel, food, hobbies, etc..) at a level compariable to what I have now (and if I do better, I will have all of you to thank for the sharing of your knowledge).

Let's avoid the big drops and make some money.

So with the -fv does that mean the actual buy in price tonight will be -.06?

tia :)

It looks like it's going to be -17 cents FV. But if Barclay wants to be aggressive like last time, it could be -24 cents FV. Just add 6 cents to these estimates for the total.

Thanks. It goes to show anything can happen--especially when you least expect it. (except for 12%) :D

May 15, 2007 share prices:

G 11.92 0.00
F 11.35 (0.01)
C 16.72 (0.02)
S 20.15 (0.14)
I 24.38 0.06

No FV in the I fund!

The I-funders got lucky this time with a little help from Barclays, of course. Shanghai Index was down -3.64% yesterday. I wonder how the OSMs are going to play out tonight. It would be a very interesting night for sure. :)

Perhaps I'm missing something here but can someone give me any reasonable rationale as to why there was no -FV today?? I was in the I fund as of today but I can't grasp the logic or lack thereof of what rules or parameters are applied to its use.
