Collins asks FBI, thrift board to explain delay in reporting TSP hacking - FederalTimes.com When asked why TSP did not tell all of its participants about the breach right away, before it had figured out who was affected, Weaver said, "That would be a nice way to scare … 4 million people." "It was not a good thing, and we're not happy about it," Weaver said. "But it's 2 percent of our population [that was affected]. To scare all of them would not be a smart move, in our estimation." Weaver said the board mailed letters to affected employees May 25, and that most of those letters should arrive May 29. The FRTIB said there is no indication that the exposed data has been misused, but it is offering free credit monitoring to affected participants.

Free credit monitoring ... Really? Wow! What a deal. Magnanimous of them. :notrust:

My kinda luck..I'm one of the 2 percenters. Received my letter on the 29th.

I have been using Callwave as my home phone for years and now they have decided to go out of business. It was the number that I gave to telemarketers, politicians, car dealers, and others that went straight to my computer and email so I never had to bother with the harassment. It was about $4 a month for a telephone number. I need a replacement service to which I can port this number. The least expensive I have found so far is about $20 a month. Does anyone have a similar service or suggestion?

I have MagicJack. The first year of service was free with the purchase of the device, then I locked in 5 more years for $69. Literally, the next week, they put out a new product that just plugs into an electrical outlet rather than your computer. I'm still satisfied, but I notice that call quality is poor if you try to use the Internet while talking on the phone. Maybe the one that goes in the wall doesn't suffer this problem. FWIW.

Hey Tractor!!!

Nice to meet you. Haven't heard from you since May with 410 post since January 2008. Number 245 on the AT, that would put you in the top 25% right? Care to share your insight, or are you too busy? :notrust:

It's called bandwidth Sensei San. Same issue we are dealing with here, stream music, phone quality goes down.

Plug in to wall? Don't know, any phone conversation has to connect somewhere not in the power grid. Do you by any chance have to buy two units?

Haha! PessOptimist-san, you don't need to add "san" to "sensei", because you are already respecting me with that title. ;)

10-4 on the bandwidth. Makes sense. But as for the plug into wall deal, take a look for yourself at their website. I don't understand it either.

I went with the Ooma which is "free" telephone service excluding the taxes and initial cost of the router. I suppose I will go with the about $10 a month for premium service. I think it will work out as long as they stay in business. It is only a couple of dollars more than I was paying for Callwave. Thanks for all the recommendations.
