Wiff007's Account Talk

Anyone thinking about Monday and being the last day before Sept? Trying to decide if I want to get out completely or maybe stay in like 10-10. I figure Monday hopefully we get a rebound day, curious to see how the markets react with Tueday and start of sept.

Wiff007, that is where I'm at, most expect the market to go lower (following transports, china shrinkage, oil, etc.), I'm working a longer timeframe DCA into, hopefully, the bottom, for a longer term ride back up. Big risk ther is if we're entering a bear market, then it becomes a 'sell the rallies' approach. Hmmmm.... I have 30% exposure, FWIW.

IFT, 10-S, 5-C. Gonna be conservative and see when that next big drop is and hopefully be ready to bounce then. Comfortable having 5 in c to make maybe something. However gonna play the waiting game. I think Oct-Dec will probably be some good gains, however sept lol who knows what that will bring. My luck it goes up then lol. Good luck to everyone :)

So question to all. If the Feds do not raise rates this month do you all think that the market could go higher or the reverse it could go lower due to delays in doing the rate raise?

That kind of stuff seems impossible to predict. It often does the opposite of what you expect, but if you count on that it does the oppoite of the opposite so you're left feeling like the smartest man in the world (Princess Bride). So rate could go up and we tank. Rates could go up confirming the recovery so we rally. Rates could remain where they are in Sep. so we rally in approval. Or that could indicate we are still in trouble so we tank. You just can't predict what's going to happen.

Futures pointing to 300 point opening loss. Hope it goes up, so do we buy the dip back up already? I am leaning towards waiting another day or so, hoping we don't have 3 or 4 days in a row in the red.

Wow 25 min to go and the market is goin. Lower, lol weird that I had a feeling the last 30 min of the day the market would sale off. Like a bad movie :(

Thinking tomorrow could be same or not as bad. Trying to decide to jump in for Thursday or wait and jump in friday?

So I wonder if the markets in China are closed Thurs and Fri does this mean that Thurs and Fri here could be good? Or do we then have to worry about the job report :/. Figured it would be a chance to jump in for a couple days until next week.

Okay so if I jump in today for Thursday and Friday, then bail Friday before noon. Will my IFT go into effect for next Tuesday? I think since Monday is a holiday the markets are closes?

Yea but if I do it before noon today I would have tomorrow and Friday, but if jump out by noon Friday would that change into effect next mon or tue?

Your original query, and as far as I can tell, this query, are asking, "If I jump out by noon Friday, would that change go into effect next Mon. or next Tues.?"

Neither. It would go into effect Friday.

When Do Interfund Transfers Take Effect?

Online and Telephone
IFTs made on this website or the ThriftLine before 12 noon Eastern time are generally processed as of that business day. Requests made after 12 noon Eastern time are generally processed the next business day.

Userque is correct.

When you put in an IFT BEFORE NOON, it goes into affect THAT DAY, Close of Business, IF the stock market is open.

If you put it in AFTER noon on friday, it would go into affect Close of Business Tuesday.

Okay

So if I do an IFT today it goes into effect the cob of today, that means i can take advantage of today's gains? I though doing it before noons means your ready to have your changes go into effect for tomorrow's business? Thus if I did it after 12 noon it would not take effect until Friday?

I'm all confused now :(

 You were already confused. You just realize it now.

So if I do an IFT today it goes into effect the cob of today,

Yes.

that means i can take advantage of today's gains?

Maybe? Depends upon your current allocation and the closing prices. What is your current allocation?

I though doing it before noons means your ready to have your changes go into effect for tomorrow's business?

Again. Nope.

Thus if I did it after 12 noon it would not take effect until Friday?

No. Thursday.

Assuming you are talking about going from G to S/C/I, absolutely NOT. You would be buying at the closing prices, which would be AFTER the gains. In order to take get any gains today, you had to be invested BEFORE today... aka Yesterday's (or previous trading day's) close

There is no way to game the system to take advantage of today's gains. Your IFT before noon (on a trading day) will reallocate your balance at COB today -putting you at risk for a loss or gain on the next trading day (Thursday).

One thing I noticed is that the G fund is the only fund that has earnings on non-trading days (weekends & holidays). At today's rates it goes up about 0.01% per day. Because of the 3 day weekend Tuesday's gain will probably be an outsized 0.03%.

This is how I saw it.
