When is best time to make Interfunds transfer?

I have been buying in the S & I for the past few years. I recently made a contribution allocations change to 80% L2040 & 20% L2030.

Basically, how does one know when it's a good time to move (sell) shares?

Am I supposed to look at the fund I am looking to sell and wait until it's up?

How do I (even) know it's up if I've been buying for several years and have no idea on average what I have been paying for the shares?

How do I determine where to move the interfunds for best gain on the move (sell)?

Anyhow, on the 29th I will be part of the $635 club so I want to make sure I am playing the game right :-)

Thanks for any help!

Congrats on maxing your contributions.

As for the other you need to learn WHY you decided on the 80/20 in the 2 L funds.

What does that really mean? What are the allocations in those funds and what does that really mean your true allocations are?

If you can figure that out then you might not have made that decision and would have rather split your money up between the G, F, C, S and I in a way that YOU decided.

So what does that mean? You have to learn what the GFCS&I are and what they represent. G is basically cash. C represents the S&P 500. S represents the Russell 4500.

Russell 4500? Who's Russell and whats the 4500 part?

Only you can make the decisions. Read. Learn. And Good luck.

tsp.gov has a link near the bottom that has all the the fund prices on a daily basis.

In addition to what KevinD said, F-Fund follows the AGG which is Barclays' Aggragate Bond ETF.

:notrust: A lot to ponder here? You only got 2 moves! Watch the markets, read the mkt predictions, watch the news for outside forces, follow hunches, follow mkt history, follow who is on top of the leader board, etc? It's all a form of roll-the-dice. All the above, Focus on the later and I split that with READ TOM's DAILY INPUT! http://www.tsptalk.com/comments.html You only got 2 moves!
Congrats and all -, I'm leary about the L funds for they are all comingled and are all battling against each other? That's my take? DB
