He doesn't move and he is not interested in a "daily tally" (just sniping). He has returned from the void because he could not stand to stand by while we travel down the path of destruction. His one post thread is not blossoming so he must sow seeds elsewhere. He is in fact here to save us from ourselves. Be prepared to be swept off of your feet.

He is in fact sound more and more like a familiar member. "I'm leaving........... no, I can't do that to you all I'm back................no, I'm leaving.................no, I'm back. Must herd the Monkeys back to the straight and narrow."

LOL!!!

Desparado seriously post your move or moves and put your money where your mouth is. You can even throw darts. It is a viable indicator to see your strategy working in a real competitive environment.

Why stop there? Why not a daily tally?
Actually.... I've been working on a spreadsheet that could plot daily increase/decrease of an account from our tracker. The purpose would be to make it easier to observe drawdown/riskiness of the person being tracked. The more the fluctuation the more the risk. Forget who suggested drawdown as a measure originally but I just learned some new excel tricks which make it possible without a whole lot of effort.

(I think I'm beginning to sound like a broken record.... "been working on a spreadsheet...")

Conspiracy theory says that Despardo is a TSP.gov plant. Brillliant mind, never mind...

Rowr! You make one little light-hearted comment and everyone gets all hot and bothered. Personally, I think the weekly tallies are kind of silly. Monthly? All right, I'll buy monthly. But weekly? Come on. You don't really believe that a person who did better this week is a more skilled trader do you?

Obviously I'm not volunteering to calculate your daily returns. And for those of you who want to see how I'm doing for some crazy reason, I told you what the equivalent TSP allocation for me would be (25% C, 25% S, 25% I, 25% G) so if you're really interested, plug it in to see how I'm doing. But personally, I can handle waiting two weeks and starting the first of the new year.

BTW, I'm curious to see whether the portfolio tracker accounts for inflows and outflows? Otherwise, the return it generates cannot be accurate. (If you don't understand why, google XIRR.) Then there is really no reason for me to post my own account there.

What's the strategy behind your asset allocation? What is your expected return? What is your expected level of risk? Does this represent a small tilt?

Just curious.

Why show MLB / NBA / NFL, etc., standings in the newspaper every day? The only reason I can think of is that people want to know. I say, give the people what they want.

Isn't that Desparado allocation essentially the same as one of the heralded L funds. Not for me guys, I'd rather spank the monkey. I just hope I can do even better next year - being a buy and hold is not easy, especially when you don't play with copper.

Positive side of Weekly Tally - it puts my progress right there in front of me, and forces me to stay on top of it.

Down side of Tally - it brings out the competive beast in some members, kill or be killed, so they do things like post their move at 12 noon so no one can keep up with them.

Positive side wins.

I'm sure we all realize that competition is GOOD in many ways. It encourages Members to learn more, take an active part in their investments and really has more to the upside than the downside. Think about it, what drives the best FOOTBALL TEAM, Money and competition! They learn from their mistakes and the mistakes of others, it's a process.
