17.17 is plus 400 so if it hits today not long. I Really try to stick to my +4 or -2 a day trade plan Do you think a longer trade against gold is setting up?

Right...I forgot about your +4/-2 strategy.

Well, my GDX system only looks a day ahead. It's saying tomorrow's range is slightly d̶o̶w̶n̶ lower and tight; as expected with the holiday.

GDX has been in a tight range, relatively speaking, for a while now--sitting near long-term support. Even odds imo with respect to T/A.

Dollars up and gold's down so I think the spike lower at the open was a little strange.

I was thinking the same, as the futures were also down. Smells like manipulation (with low volume as well?)

Maybe there was [a little] buying pressure, so "they" pumped the price of the 'underlyings' in anticipation of a fall later. That's my story at least.

there is no one trading. 2 hrs in and 3M shares traded. normally 2 to 3 X that many. I guess the nice weather has everyone outside ignoring the markets

I've been outside too, but unfortunately it has been to shovel snow every couple of hours. We're getting dumped on here. About 3 feet in the last several days.

I feel for you, Tom. It was 62 degrees at 6am this morning. I had to break out the winter clothes (socks) before walking around. :laugh:

Well now it's getting interesting. Never stopped out yesterday and today we opened down. So, I doubled down at 15.02. I really do believe the dollar will rebound and smack GDX back down to 1050 or so.
