TSP Poker Club

May those voting in this matter so indicate by announcing the number of games that should be included next season and beyond.

We have 10 of 13 by JPC
We have 75% by burro; however, I would ask that a clear number be submitted rather than a percentage.

Votes/Suggestions can be withdrawn/changed as the debate is ongoing.

Obviously, without a consensus, and with split votes, no changes should take place.

As for the last place not getting points:

This was on purpose. When I created the points function, I forced it to give the last person 0 points on the theory that you shouldn't get points just for playing. I actually see not playing better than getting last place.

There is no special handling of people who are sitting out. They are counted as the position they end in.

I can change it if people disagree with my thoughts, but just an FYI, that it is how it is now, intentionally.

That was kind of what I was getting at, people that sit out and don't play place better than people that actually play and make an effort. Seems a little screwy.

On a different topic, how does everyone feel about having a regularly scheduled competition game (all games count-or throw out worst one) and a regularly scheduled just for fun game?

as for number of games, anywhere between 50% and 100% works for me. I think we should not stick to top 8 for a 23 game season. Currently Gator is the best example of "missing" games since he started late, and has done well.

I recall it was intentional. I remember your comments. I was going to speak on it before the next season. Now is as good a time as any, I thought.

I believe no poker club should reward NOT playing; or make playing equivalent to sitting out, in any respect. If you took time out of your life, you should score better than someone that didn't. Simple...in maybe just my mind...but simple.

This would discourage, rather than encourage players that are new to the game.

Once again, I speak for others. I have no dog in this fight.

I renew my motion that the last place player not receive zero points, but instead, receive points.

If you are objecting to that k0n, please so clearly state.

Agree, it's screwy. But it's actually a fairly common strategy in poker: sitting out hands. Usually it's intentional, and not like our situation of people not being able to make it, but ultimately the end result is the same.

While someone sitting out the whole time will probably end up in the middle for points, they have 0 chance of actually winning. Where as someone who goes out early, did have a chance, had the cards fell differently.

Gator will get in 8 games if he wants to. Gator could have started earlier than he did (I have knowledge to that effect). Etc. etc.

I'm not certain if you're are saying this; but I don't think it to be proper to change anything for the current season, especially since the season is nearly over.

If you open that door--changing stuff midstream, be prepared to walk through it again in the future. Research ex post facto laws. Either we run a tight ship; or we run a willy-nilly ship. Again, the will of the people.

I move that the current season remain intact, as it has been for months--with no debate or protests.

I'm aware of the strategy part. Just isn't the case with our group. Just my random thoughts though. Was wondering how everyone else felt about it.

LOL...in light of the above, I feel comfortable in revealing that k0n was the one that objected to me wanting to extend the 8 early on.

I object to last place getting points. But of course willing to modify the equation if it 'passes'.

I think getting last place is worse than not playing. I actually toyed with giving them negative points lol, but didn't.

Keep in mind, the change would change points values for all finishing positions from what they currently are, as the curvy would be shifted.

Bring it, buddy! Actually, I got last place today and I don't care one way or the other. But I always did think it was screwy to get recognition for not playing.

It's not so bad....

:cheesy: maybe if you didn't move seats on me, we'd still be fighting it out heads up!

Guess so. I certainly agree with not changing things mid season. Maybe that's why. Granted I don't remember knowing this season would be 23 games long. I thought it was just going to be a few extra games. Not 10!

That's not my motion. My motion is for the next season forward. Again, it is sacrosanct to not make non-critical, slightly opposed changes to a current contest of any sorts.

Found the post, from 3/7:
top 8 of 13 sounds good to me. Slightly less than 2/3rds, and its an even number.

I say do this season top 8 as well. even if there are more games that will be dropped. Its not for prizes, and if we keep it to the same as what next season will be, people will have a benchmark for them self!

But I also said:
I don't think I'd recommend counting any less than half the games. And I think we should still do it based on Total points, summing only the top x-number of games for each player.

I had no idea we would have 23 games.
