In this case, we only appear to be tied, because I'm only displaying 1 decimal place (its 5.3985... to 5.3711...). In reality, that number has a bunch of decimals.

But regardless, you are right. While ties are improbable, they are definitely possible. And the spreadsheet doesn't handle 2 people that are tied well at all because it will always find the 1st one and you'll have duplicate entries.

I handled it this way: I actually calculate a 'Total Score' which uses more than just points.
And uses this precedence:
1. Points
2. Average Points (So, same points, but fewer games wins. Given points is a tie, its likely this one will also be a tie)
3. Total Prize $
4. Average Prize Money
5. KOs

In each case, I take the value for the given person, and normalize it by dividing it by the SUM of all player's values. this ensures a value less than or equal to 1. Then, based on the precedence, I divide it by a power of 10. 1st precedence, points, is left alone (no dividing by SUM either). 2nd precedence is divided by 10^8. 3rd precedence by 10^10. 4th precedence by 10^12. 5th precedence by 10^14.

Thanks, no objection. :)

If there is still a tie at that point...

6. rock paper scissors

or russian roulette. i am even better at that game than i am at poker, as my perfect record will attest.

that is an incredible level of attention to detail and exacting standards you guys have there. no offense, but in your spare time would you like to come over and clean my bathroom naked with a toothbrush?

Alternatively, if we have a tie for prizes, we can manually determine a winner by increasing additional games.

For example, say there is a tie for 1st (just points) when using just top 8. The precedence would be:
1. top 8
2. 9th best games
3. 10th best games
4. 11th best games
5. 12th best games
6. 13th best games

I say manually because I don't intend on building that into the spreadsheet as a tie breaker, as it would be far more complicated.

In cases that aren't for prizes... then they just tied. No harm in a tie.

I had to break ties some how, to prevent breaking everything else. 'errors' occur if two people have the same rank... since people are listed in the order which they are ranked (automatically now).

The method I used to break the tie was one of the lowest hanging fruit I could find

I don't understand how to read the tables..... well particularly the Place Finished table and rows 2 and 3.

How do the 2nd and 3rd row tables feed into the average stats? Looks like we would have the 2nd and 3rd rows reflecting a week of play each, then consolidated to a totals table and then that would be used to create the averages table. Not trying to be picky... just not understanding how these tables work together. Please help me understand... and more importantly, THANK YOU for all your work on this!! Really!!!
Last one had an error in the All Time stats. I only had the top row converted and didn't down fill to the rest of the rows. Also testing image quality, as they seem to be reduced quite a bit when i upload them:

I've selected Burro this time (combo box on the bottom right), that is why his name is highlighted.

Look at the far left, in green, to tell you what the sections (rows) mean.
Top most section, the 3 tables going across, are stats for ALL games played
Middle section, the 3 tables going across, are stats from JUST games between a Start Date and End Date, which are selectable at at the bottom right. They are arbitrary right now, but they will be the Start and End date for the current season, whenever the next season starts.
Bottom section, the 2 tables going across, are the stats from each players TOP x games, within the Start Date and End Date. This is also selectable, and on the graphic u saw, it was set to 2. This will be set to 8 once the season starts.

EACH SECTION IS STAND ALONE. The difference between the 3 sections is HOW MUCH data they include. ALL DATA vs RANGE OF DATA vs TOP x GAMES DATA.

The Left tables are just the general stats. lists the Rank, Number of games, Points, Prize $, KO's, etc. For each player.
The Middle tables are a tally of which place (Horizontal axis... 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th...) each player (vertical axis .... k0nkuzh0n, userque....). For example, in the All Time Stats section (top), No1Gata has finished in 2nd place THREE times, hence why there is a dark green 3 in that square.
The Right Tables are for Knock Outs (KO's). the Vertical axis is who GOT KNOCKED OUT, the Horizontal axis is who DID the knocking out. In the All Time stats section (top),stupahdahso has been knocked out BY No1Gata TWICE, hence a 2 in that square. A Knock Out table isn't applicable for the TOP Scores section (bottom section), therefore there is a blank spot, that I put selectable stuff (start date, end date, # of top games, User selected)

There is not AVERAGE table, there is however Average stats. You can see there is a column for 'Ave Points' and 'Ave Prize' and 'Ave Place'

Hope this helps!

Are we playing Sunday or Monday? Thought someone had mentioned alternating???

Monday. Yup, alternating.

Btw, The tourneys are named by the night they will be held on, so you could also check in the poker room if no one is around in here that knows.

Also, I'll start posting it on the announcement board in the room, and in here. :)

I registered for tonight. may be a little late, one of my out-of-town day trips on deck. keep my chair warm.
