Trivia

okay -
this touches on a couple of recent court rulings:

Regarding accomplished current stem cell treatments, what is
the ratio of Adult Stem Cells vs Embryonic Stem Cells ?

:D

Sure, Steel M, I'll be glad to. The comment `...recent court rulings' refers to the United States. The phrase `accomplished treatments' is treatments already in use.
So what I am asking is Adult Stem Cell research is now actively treating how many different conditions; and Embryonic Stem Cell research is now actively treating how many different conditions.

The question is a `now, today, at this time' in the USA question with no deviancies as to what may happen in the future- tomorrow, next month, next year.

Does this help clarify my trivia question?

Grandma

Okay, let's see if I can get this right. Off the top of my head:

In the US, embryonic cells are being used to treat spinal cord injuries experimentally, and also experimentally to treat macular dystrophy.

In the US, adult stem cells are being used to treat many types of cancers, such as leukemia, lymphoma, and bone cancer. Also kidney disease, Parkinsons, and experimentally to treat Huntington's, diabetes, celiac disease, autoimmune diseases like Lupus, and various neurological disorders. Etc, etc.

All recognized US stem cell treatments that are common practice use adult stem cells.

How did I do, grandma?

You know, Steel M, there are always folks traveling from one country to another for surgeries, treatments, etc...whether into the US or out of it.
Since Germany apparently has the treatment available for your condition, why not put your eggs all in the basket & go for it. I can't imagine what a joy that would be! :D
grandma, you're very thoughtful in your suggestion for treatment. Unfortunately, our insurance won't cover the treatment because they still consider it experimental. And without insurance our cost would be over four hundred thousand. But I'm being patient because Canada may have the treatment soon and it could be lower in price.

Thanks again for making the suggestion!
Maggie

... Germany, who is already doing the type of spinal cord stem cell treatment that could treat my condition, or the United States,.....
Thanks!

Grandma, I'm guessing that nobody on the MB pays as much attention to stem cell research as I do. And I know that the answer to the question depends on whether you're talking about, for example, Germany, who is already doing the type of spinal cord stem cell treatment that could treat my condition, or the United States, who is far behind several other countries in stem cell research because of the 2001 law restricting some types of stem cell research.

So, cutting to the chase, could you restate your question or give us a clue as to what you're going after?

:embarrest:

Thanks!

As An Aside: I am sorry to hear about your spinal cord problem - I recall some years ago the Veteran's research had developed help from the use of baby cords for that. And, SCI is included in a list of Neural Degenerative dz & injuries that adult stem cells are actively helping.

Hello, Here's an interesting tidbit. What problem did Leonardo da Vinci, Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison and General George Patton have in common?

spelling, not my original guess, just couldn't take it anymore, i cheated.

go again. post another?

Not. Enough. Room. On. The. Counter.

you got enough room on that counter for a toaster? but not enough for coffee machine?

pretty easy choice in my book. i mean really, how often do people eat toast in the morning vs. drink coffee? i'll tell you which one would be stored in the cubbard.

now if they only made instant toast.

oh jeez, i should have known

utah ... morning ... "not enough room on the counter" ... (yeah right just can't justify it to family or don't want the home teachers to see - or talk)

....good thing you're not addicted to heroine...
No, my friend burro. Not. Enough. Room. On. The. Counter.

My kitchen was redesigned from the original blueprints to make room for wheelchair access. We kept the original square footage but made it more of a short square, so we have a lot less counter space but a wheelchair or Jazzy can access the kitchen area easily. And our doorways. And our hallways. And one of the bathrooms. Just thinking ahead to not very far down the road.

And I am addicted to heroines. And heroes too. :D

Maggie.

good thing you're not addicted to heroine, where would you stash that?

i was going to buy you an indoor fountain for christmas, but now it's an esspresso machine, don't worry you can blame it on your crazy friend, you'd never use it right? just tell them that smell is the candle over there on the corner table.

we had a name for your type: jack.

honesty is always the best policy.

Coffee IS a gift from the gods, I agree! But if you don't want Starbucks and don't have the kitchen counter space for yet another machine ..... well... What did Joel Cheek invent?
