The Patio

knock..knock!! PO are you decent?! How's the weather out your way? Nice day for a pool party? The weather over here has been extremely hot and humid this past month and the whole state is commenting on how we have never had a summer like this before. The tradewinds have been light and sporadic and not offering much relief. But, hold on! Hurricane Guillermo is heading Hawaii's way (CAT 2) and is not slowing down. It should be here by Tuesday. I'm not too concerned about these hurricane warnings anymore, they seem to always fizzle out or turn in another direction. Of course there is always the chance this could "be the one" that hits and it is best to be prepared. Eh, one of the few hazards living in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. I'm off to Costco to refresh my hurricane safety kit anyway. I never understood why people always stock up on toilet paper in these emergency situations.... water, batteries, canned goods, yes...but toilet paper? I'm going to question the first person I see with bulk tp as to why?:suspicious: I may not want to know.

Batten down the hatches kk, saying a prayer for a wide berth on that system. Use the extra TP to decorate the next door neighbor's house!

Define decent. Hot with dew points in the high 60s here. G seems to be winding down and i hope is just a big rain event for you. TP is because most females use one roll per day and letting the house run low is worse than cheating. I am speaking from experience with many females most of whom were relatives taught by elder females.

Your weather may or may not be an inconvenient truth. I heard on the news tonight that el nino or la nina or la tia or someone may or may not cause a little or a lot of rain which may or may not effect the drought here. So we must be prepared. They never said for what.

Best of luck and let us all know how it goes with Guillermo. Stay safe.

po, you indicate you may sometimes enjoy a frosty libation and i think i may have found a retail outlet that could solve a couple of your concerns in one stop.

no way, these are two of my favorite things! also a brilliant marketing scheme if you ask me, c'mon who doesn't like beer and boobs?

give me the address.

it's a little off the beaten path, and keep in mind they grow 'em big out here in farm country, but the official uniform appears to be black tank tops. also, it is located near the local college so there is no shortage of counter help, and near as i could tell with a quick visual inspection, no fso's (foriegn saline objects) so that is always a bonus.

Watching the Lunar eclipse tonight. Yeah, kinda boring unless you think it is cool how all the planets and stuff work together and wonder how it got that way.

Caaaaarful PO. Getting in to forbidden territory.

Anyway, a couple hours left if anyone who forgot wants to look. Look to the east. Where that big shiny thing starts the day.

Unspectacular here so far. Just the moon going from full to new in a short time and no red color.

PO

Over half the moon is back, no reddish color at all. Nothing to see here. Glad I watched anyway so I can tell the grand kids yes. nnuut send me a message however we are doing it then while we watch the 2033 one.:D

Sky was clear and cloudless. Took the dog out at 10pm and around 12:45 - completely missed it.

Did notice the extra illumination though, really bright around 10pm

Agree PO. We went out to see it but it was almost too dark to see any red in it. And it looked small not LARGE like I was expecting it to be.

Happy Halloween everyone. Been a sloooow night here so far. 4 kids in 45 minutes. Looks like there will be no reason to implement my plan for saving candy for myself. Maybe, time will tell.

Well, there is a box of 'nilla wafers on the counter. No idea why. I figure we could crack that open and throw one wafer in to each bag and then someone will have to eat the candy later.

Hows it going in your neck of the woods?

rainy damp night, cool, not cold. 2 callers to this point. some years more, some less. these days parents take their kids into town, let the businesses hand out candy to the little ones before dark. starting around 4pm. I had one tiny tot come to the door with her young father around 6, her first trick or treat, I could tell, she was still wrapping her brain around the whole idea of somebody putting candy in her little bucket. a boy, prolly jr high, came by 1/2 hour later. Cars driving up the street now and then, deeper into the neighborhood coming back from town, they aren't cruising the homeowners along our street, just want to get the kids home.

Halloween costume?

I guess they need to be a little more specific when they hold
an Office Halloween Dress Up day....

Just got pictures of my two grandsons trick or treating. They are two and four. The youngest was a police officer- Hey I ain't afraid of no ghosts! Just keep the candy coming this is great!!!

Sitting on the side of the highway waiting to catch speeding drivers, a state trooper sees a car puttering along at 22 MPH.
Thinking to himself, "This driver is just as dangerous as a speeder," so he turns on his lights and siren and pulls the driver over.

Approaching the car, he notices that there are five old ladies- two in the front seat, and three in the back- all with eyes wide open & white as a ghost.

The driver, obviously confused, says to him:
"Officer, I don't understand...I was doing exactly the speed limit...What's the problem?"

"Ma'am," the officer replies, "You weren't speeding, but you should know that driving slower than the speed limit can also be a danger to other drivers."

"Slower than the speed limit?" she asked..."No sir, I was driving the speed limit exactly...
Twenty-Two miles an hour," the old lady says.

The State Trooper, trying to contain a chuckle, explains to her that "22" was the Route number, not the speed limit.

A bit embarrassed, the old lady grinned and thanked the officer for pointing out her error.

"But before I let you go, Ma'am, I have to ask...Is everyone in this car okay?
These women seem awfully shaken and they haven't muttered a single peep this whole time," the trooper asks.

"Oh, they'll be alright in a minute, officer..We just got off Route 119."

Happy Halloween or whatever you choose to call this pagan festival of getting free stuff.

Got home late due to strange system malfunctions at the J.O.B. Lot's of strange driving but saw few kids in costume, just a few adults. Some may just have been wearing their normal attire but I noticed tonight.

The motivation to post is a question. If you walk up to a house with the outside lights on, though it is not decorated in any festive way, and see a round white lighted thing surrounded by a shiny housing would you not expect to have to press the white light to get a response from the house? I have observed this behavior at least once tonight. I have also observed this behavior from delivery people. Yes I have checked and the white light when pressed does actuate an obnoxious chimey thing.

Perhaps the technology involved is too much for the locals? Perhaps there is something I don't know about the etiquette involved in a person approaching a house door?

Whatever, traffic here has been very light. Was the same last year. Pickings are too slim in the neighborhood? Not too many lights on and only a couple houses decorated.

PO

As an ex-delivery person I would push the white button, wait 5 seconds, maybe 2, and then knock loudly. Sometimes the owners have the tv on or music on loudly and can't hear the chimes most times in my experience. Sometimes they're in the lua or getting out of the shower. Sometimes knocking loudly along with pushing the white button with the chimey sound sent a message to get to the door.
