The new TSP website is an unmitigated disaster!

Yes, I got them as well.

I just received 2 letters from TSP in the mail dated June 4th. One was about "Your account has been claimed" and the other is "You added and alternate email and changed your phone number" I don't know what "your account has been claimed" means. I assume these are just letters to confirm I've switched over to the new system successfully? I can log in ok and all my data looks normal. Just was curious if anyone else got these kinds of letters.

Yes, the account needs to be “reclaimed” since your old username and password won’t work on the new site. Apparently, every time you edit or add information the site generates an event notification. I kept on getting emails regarding an “address change” being processed. I requested no such thing but I did add an email and a phone number to my profile so I assume those changes generated the notification

I still have to figure out how to add my wife to the account. It keeps telling I have to go through my agency, but I’m retired so that is not an option. The TSP line rep was clueless about this issue so I’m on my own.

Un-fingbelievable. I heard from another member the other day that the site was missing records like past quarterly statements. I haven't visited the site since I retired last fall, but expect to need a withdrawal sometime 4th quarter if not sooner. I truly hope things are fixed before I get to the point of absolute necessity for access. This is freaking f'd up. So sorry for those relying on withdrawals right now. I'll be joining you in the disgusted-angry-disbelieving boat if not fixed in the next quarter or so.

By the way, this is going from bad to worse. We have been told that to accomplish things like changing installment amounts or federal withholding status we need to call the Thrift Line. Until yesterday the hold time was 90 minutes. Today, for me the call is going directly to a fast busy signal. At least as of this moment there is no way to manage my account.

In my former agency if someone FU like this that person would be investigated and subject to potential sanctions which included loss of pay. Whoever approved this fiasco at the TSP without certifying that the new website was ready to roll out, and without training the onboard employees on the new system, needs to face some consequences.

Just a note- I have both a military and a civilian account.

Despite me giving them my email address, and choosing to have information sent to me by email, I am also getting the letters by snail US postal service.

So far I have set up my account, done a beneficiary registration, taken a one time distribution, and now have gotten my first monthly payment.

For each of those actions, I’ve gotten at LEAST one letter, and sometimes two letters. Yes, separate letters telling me how much of my monthly payment was Roth, and how much was conventional. I’m now up to about TEN hard copy mailed letters.

Each one, I am sure, must cost at LEAST a dollar to send.

I predict that expenses for the TSP are going to double.

When we had no trading limits, the expense was about $ 0.24 to 0.26 CENTS per thousand of balance.

When they instituted a limit of two trades a month, costs doubled to around $0.46-0.49 per 1,000 dollars.

And now, with all these letters using US Postal mail, I am pretty sure the cost will double again. We shall see the next time they publish expense ratios.

Logged back into my account this morning. I haven't been on since I set up the new account last week. On the old website you could put in any date and see what the cost per share was for all the funds on that date. Has anyone found that information on this new website? I'm trying to fill in the missing dates during the website blackout so my excel spreadsheet is accurate. Thanks.

Is TSP even open on the Federal Holiday today?

Apparently the fast busy signal I got yesterday on the TSP line had nothing to do with the holiday because it is still there this morning. At this rate it may be a month before I am able to change the amount of my installment payment and get my personal information straightened out. This is ludicrous! Is anyone else having trouble getting through?

I called to try to change my installment payments this morning. The menu directed me to the open account option because it said (incorrectly) that I hadn’t opened an account yet. After being on hold for an hour the representative transferred me to the withdrawal office. After another hour on hold my call was dropped.

So the phone line is just as poorly designed as the website, and I am unable to lower the amount of my installment payments. I have already received one installment payment I did not want, thus incurring tax liabilities for funds I do not need at the moment. I would also prefer to lower my withdrawals while stock values are low. I am unable to manage my money either online or on the phone, what incredible incompetence on the part of the TSP.

Nightmare!

Thanks everyone, for sharing your experiences.

I had the same thing happen to me the other day. I was transferred to the withdrawal office and the call dropped after about 25 minutes on hold. That is on top of the 75 minutes I was on hold to speak with a representative who admitted she had not been trained on the new system and had no idea what to do.

So, we have gone from a relatively cumbersome website that at least allowed you to accomplish most tasks online, and semi competent operators who could help you with most tasks, to a ridiculously user unfriendly website where almost nothing can be accomplished, and clueless operators who have no idea how to help you.

At the end of the day they will sort this out in a few weeks (hopefully) and we will probably receive an email apologizing for any inconvenience. I hope they will be able to address the missed installments, additional unwanted tax withholding, and most of the other issues this nightmare has caused. Unfortunately, there are some things like reducing the amount of your monthly installments (which is what I am seeking to accomplish) for which you will simply have to reduce future payments even more to meet your yearly goal. I am flabbergasted by the fact that we actually have to come up with hacks to address this tortured new system.

Edit - at least some of you guys are getting through to an operator. I am still getting a fast busy when I dial the TSP line.

Hello fellow TSP'rs, I decided to give the sign in a try this morning. Seemed simple enough. Filled in the requested information and selected the provide additional information option instead of the Mail Option. It immediately defaulted to the Mail Option and wouldn't allow me to go back to the Provide Additional Information option. Has anyone else had this experience? If so, any hacks for getting around this problem? If not, I guess I am stuck waiting on the Mail. Ridiculous!

I am not sure if this answers your question because I’m not certain I understand it. However, one thing that does seem to be working on the website is the feature that allows you to change the way you receive communications from the TSP. Go to the person icon on the top right, and then select manage communications. From there scroll down to delivery options and select change. This allows you to toggle back-and-forth between email and postal mail.

On another subject, since I am here I may as well report that the wait time to speak to a representative on the TSP line was 80 minutes this morning. I don’t know how long this nonsense will last, but with potentially hundreds of thousands of people experiencing issues with the new website it may be a long time before we are able to get a quick answer about anything.

Also, the list of “known issues“ that the TSP website has published doesn’t begin to address the dozens of things that are wrong with the site.

Thanks for the update.
I'm still trying to find where I can see the daily cost per share for the different funds so I can update my spreadsheet.

Why don’t you try tsp center, they use to track daily share prices and quite a few other things. I’m sure you can find the info there. If you wait for the official TSP website to bring this online you may be in for quite a wait.

Same here. On the share price history page I just get a message "Hmm, something isn't working".
I'm starting to think I better roll over my TSP to an IRA before they lose my account, but I'm leaving on a summer-long road trip soon so don't have time to do it.

Thanks Rc for the reply! I still haven't been able to sign in to open my new account yet. Hate to stay on hold on the phone tree so was looking for another way to get signed in without waiting for the Mail Option or staying on the phone for hours. Hacks anyone!

It is like they have two websites
one for you to login and see your personal stuff
one for general info,PDFs and share prices

after you log out try clicking on the TSP logo

Thanks Rcf3,

I didn't know about the TSP Data Center. I was able to get the share prices for 6/1/22 but the share prices for 5/27 and 5/31 don't exist. So it looks like FTRIB froze our accounts for those two dates. The TSP Data Center shows 5/26 and 5/31 with the same numbers. Friday 5/27 and Tuesday 5/30 are not posted.
