Tax Cuts

NO- they were busy doing Health Care reform, and other assorted issues. Reaching out and making compromises to the republicans at almost every turn, trying to be bipartisan. They didn't "secure middle class tax cuts then" because there were other, higher priority issues then. Health Care- you remember that? Health Care reform took up a huge amount of time and compromises.

And there were a lot of other, more important things at the time... http://whatthefuckhasobamadonesofar.com/
Were you talking about this? The federal government is now going to decide what to feed your children at school. I wonder if they can decide WHETHER your child is fed at school? I can just see it now, little Johnny can't eat the cafeteria food, because his daddy voted Republican.

Don't think it can happen here? I do. The Dems seek absolute power over the life and death of the American people. It can happen and it will, unless they are stopped.

What a marvelous idea. I think I'll nominated it on the "Youcut" website.

James,

The middle class tax treatment was so important it was placed behind some carbon tax, a kinky pig stimulus, a medical plan, and a list of healthy dining laws:p

This Administration and this Congress could have passed President Obama's stated tax code in 20 minutes at any point in the year prior to January 19, 2010 when the Democrats DID HAVE A SUPERMAJORITY. It would have probably taken almost an hour at any point before it became obvious Republicans would have a say in the deal. Now, the newbie Tea Party types don't like the sweeteners in it. Even now, all the Administration has to do is garner three 'rock ribbed' Replublicans like Scott Brown, Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham, John McCain, Olympia Snowe or George Voinovich. I am almost certain they could have pulled Brown, Collins, and Snowe till maybe October. His problem is that he can’t even hold his own party. He is Jimmy Carter II.

Anyway, James, as we know, the Bush Tax Cuts for the Corpulent Fat Cat Pigs in the Trough provided no beneficial help to the poor and middle class. We heard that refrain for almost a decade now. It must be true. It will be proven true on your first paycheck for 2011.

Now the tea party types want their gouge. And, James, their gouge is an actual and substantial spending cut. That is why there is substantial noise from economic conservatives. The ‘Deal’ is Obama’s last chance to get some pig butt booty before he – and the big spending Republicans – get hammered.

Finally, why is Congressman Ryan supporting it? Easy. He will be the new chairman of the House Budget Committee. The House creates the budget.

Just for fun, we should create a thread – or use the thread I made when I still had hope – to annotate our losses in take home pay. It will help so much.

So, Obama lost his opportunity – by wasting two years.

It just wasn't very important, was it.

Enjoy the schadenfreude.

Where are three more democratic votes to make a super majority of 60? I see at least 42 republicans up there.
The Dems had a super majority from the time Franken was seated (first week of July 2009 due to the lengthy recount court battle) until Kennedy died. If my memory is right, that was about a two month period - although I don't know if Kennedy was actively casting votes in the Senate during that time.

As for priorities: why did Congress fail to pass a budget? How inept must you be to not manage to do that? It's only the MOST IMPORTANT task!
