It's funny how you selectively point to GOP opposition while ignoring the opposition from the hard left in this post. The reasonable people on the panel from the left and right supported the plan - which is precisely why it won't gain acceptance in Congress, since that chamber is run by the extreme ideologues in both parties.

And the vast majority of people don't want tax cuts extended for the rich because... wait for it... the vast majority of people don't make over $250k per year. This illustrates the root of the problem we have in this country: people want all the benefits of government, but they do not want to pay for them - hence deficits as politicians continue to borrow and spend, fearing they will lose their jobs when voters realize what the true cost of government is.
