It'll be interesting to see how our survey and comments compare to the Fedsmith poll and article on the package. Flat tax works for me and everyone needs to pay some amount of income tax, then they won't be so quick to stick that hand out for welfare.

Why bother? Our fearless leaders in Washington didn't read it.
Well, let me re-phrase that...they bought the Clifts notes version
and speed-read through it to make sure their earmarks were still
in it. Then they approved all of it.

I gotta agree with Bud - and also admit - I didn't read it, either. I only know what I have read about it. From this, it seems its a "spend-crazy/socialist" package;
so, of course, being I think, a rational American, mine's a resounding: "I don't approve."

The tax cut is a mistake, that didn't work last time, and will just put us more in the TARP/Iraq-Afganistan off budget/stimulus borrowing hole. And we won't have anything to show for it on the job or infrastructure front. Most people will have to use it to save, or pay extra interest on their debt since rates have gone nuts in the last few months. Either be brave and follow your theory that we need to create jobs, or decide instead we need to cut taxes, one or the other. Halfway is not going to give you the best of both, it's only going to blunt the effects.

BTW, good luck trying to get tax breaks lifted later, spending is once, tax breaks are forever. You want a crisis of confidence just *remove* something someone got earlier. It's going to be enough of a shock when those new tax brackets (that eliminated the top brackets) go out in 2012, and back to where they used to be. I didn't get any help from those tax brackets, I don't make enough, so I'm biased, but I don't know what was wrong with the brackets that worked perfectly fine, even under Reagan (and earlier)! :toung: But even I think adding to the shock is a BAAADDDD idea.

I have to agree with BHO on what he said the other night while he was in Indiana trying to sell his package..."Doing Something is better than not doing anthing"

Has anybody here got what it takes?..If so run for office and put YOUR plan into action and your money where your mouth is....I won't sit around pretending to be an armchair quarterback Monday morning...If I was that smart, I would be in the Big house on Penn ave, and not a simple civil servant on GS-14 pay pretending to know how and what would work....

I support this action in hopes it will work..I don't want to see it fail before it's given a chance to work..(or not, is yet to be determined). 8 years of war and major debt, and Wall street and bank coruption is enough for me.

BHO is also not a big fan of FERS and Core Comp..hopefully for the sake of getting more and better qualified people in the GOV work force, we will go back to the GS scale GOV wide and CSRS again...

I dont' see the Gov't returning to the CSRS system, because the cost of it is prohibitive, thats why we went to FERS. I'd love to have CSRS, cause my father retired as a CSRS and he has no financial concerns. As far as NSPS vs GS, NSPS saves the Feds money especially when it comes to the high 3. The DOD is under NSPS and I feel bad for those younger employees who are going to be screwed out of thousands of dollars, due to the way the pay scale is set up.

BHO may reverse NSPS, since it hasn't been fully funded annd is not a Gov't wide pay scale, plus he has indicated that he's not that fond of NSPS. I hope he goes back to both, but I give CSRS almost no chance, but NSPS may have a chance to be reversed.

Now if we'd only have spent more than 7% for infrastructure, for the so called infrastructure package, I'd had even more hope, but I'm not counting on many jobs being produced excepted as a spin off of doling out all the welfare/social program money.

No Monday seat QB'ing, but I know infrastructure and we screwed the pooch on being spendthrifts on this pork package, :cheesy: when the entire country is in dire need and we'd have years of work.

But what do I know know, I've just been in or around construction for almost 30 years.:nuts:

I've got 36 + 3 years Military this MAY as a Gov employee and I HAVE seen it all..But like you said CB..WHAT do I know?

HOPE is all we ever have..unless you have a crystal ball....Like I said, IF anyone knows better and can think of a better way than what is going to go on right now..Step forward and put up, or shut up...Past experiences do not apply today..we are working with a whole new different set of circumstances.

Supply of GASOLINE goes up...GAS GOES UP in price

Demand goes down for gas.....Gas GOES UP in price

Since "You HAVE seen it all" I'll bow to your knowledge and just speak from POV of one concerned citizen then. How would you recommend getting any idea good or bad to the responsible people that actually makes the decision? I've done the letter, email and telephone thing, the only thing that seems to have worked is that they have listened to my fellow co-workers suggestions for "shovel ready projects", that'll put folks to work ASAP, since we have projects currently under construction, but they are currently being prolonged due to fiscal constraints. It'll be interesting to see where our $4.6B will go.

And put up or shut up? No dissension allowed? How do you think our "representatives" hear our voices if were not allowed to express our displeasure at them sacrificing our childrens future for a package that you don't like or think will work or for that matter anything that Congress proposes. According to BHO, the public would be allowed to review for a week all legislation and I would say this was a pretty important one to review, so we could have given our ideas, but it was kept behind close doors and just dribs and drabs allowed out. That was one of his compaign promises and if we aren't even aware what's in the package until becomes law, why even open our mouths. But pols are liars so I never expected this promise to be kept.

So, in summary, only those that have experience in a given field are allowed to object, since they would be the only ones with the experience to offer alternative solutions. That's what what our Pols in congress are saying now, that they know better than us on how our tax dollars are to be spent, since they did read all 1000+ pages of the package. Huh, that almost sounds elitist from here.

Sorry for going on so, but put up or shut, just doesnt strike me as being very American. And nnuut is right, nothing makes any sense in the market or economy and it'll just get worse, cause the rules of the game, they are a changin.

Just speaking, from the POV of a concerned American citizen, from the heart, and based on just my principles or morals. It's all moot now, it's all over. Here's Hoping it works, we'll see how well that works out for us.

Good ole Harry Reid got his railroad project from Disneyland in L.A. to Las Vegas so the good ole folks could squander their money in the casino after taking the kids for a ride in Disneyland. Who's Harry representing....the mob...so that's right....their legitimate businesses by now....I forgot! Oh that railroad earmark...I mean project was to add about 10k jobs out of the 4.5 million....so that's 4.4999999 left for Obama! Remember, it's a clean bill without earmarks...so sign it or things will get worse! Yeah...they just did!!!!!!!! We just delayed recovery by about 4 more years!
