How the Stimulus program will work

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House. One is from Chicago, another is from Tennessee, and the third is from Minnesota.

All three go with a White House official to examine the fence.

The Minnesota contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil. "Well," he says, "I figure the job will run about $900: $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and $100 profit for me."

The Tennessee contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, "I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me."

The Chicago contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the White House official and whispers, "$2,700."

The official, incredulous, says, "You didn't even measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?"

The Chicago contractor whispers back, "$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire the guy from Tennessee to fix the fence."

"Done!" replies the government official.

And that is how the new stimulus plan will work.....:D..:suspicious:
 
The ink on the Stimulus bill hasn’t even dried yet and the auto companies are already asking for more federal tax money!!! I have yet to meet anyone who supports the 800 billion spending plan other than politicians in DC land!! :cool::cool:

Ah ha..good ideas..But flawed by sounding simplistic..If no one has jobs to pay for items shipped via a new rail system and companies that build rail systems are laying off because they can't afford to pay workers ..how does that get done?...I think everyone is right here in some degree...but people need to feed and house their families as well as go back to work..where do you get the ball rolling.?..By putting what few dollars Americans have back in their pockets to spend on things and the circle of economic life begins to roll...But hey, what do I know? I can't even speel, huh Budnippler:D
 
I'm a rep and I feel that there are too many tax cuts and not enough spending for the stimulas to work. We should have taken this opportunity to build the bullet train fron NY to LA and all major citied in between. Rebuild the rail structure in this country so items can be shiped cheapely. Expand the light rail within our cities and the outlieing areas so people can use them for travel to and from there work. This will save more oil and $$$ than all the windmills in TX, and the Dakota's. We needed to have something to show for all the money that is being spent. Hi Ponpae. There is no gold option in FERS or TSP, closest you get is the G fund. It's always wise to put into TSP up to the level that gov matches your contributions, ie 5% for me. Anything more than that, consider investing outside the TSP in a Roth or other form of IRA. You can put your IRA $ into gold investment of some flavor if that's your hearts desire. FERS/TSP is not same as an IRA. You get a lot less choices of where to put your $.

In TSP/FERS, you won't make much in G, but it preserves your cash the best short-term. Notice I said short-term, you don't want to leave your savings in G indefinitely, especially if you're a young sprout. I'm not. :toung: Risk-taking has a lot to do with how close to retirement you are and how close/far your savings are to meeting retirement goals.

No hypocrite here, Buster.:D I sent last years stimulus $ to 3 handpicked orphans who needed the money a lot worse than I did. A lot worse than you, too. GS14 indeed, says the 12. I'll send this next stim check to my orphans too. They still need it worse than you do, sorry! :nuts:

That is why I admire BHO continuing to campaign for President Pelosi's Stimulus Plan.

Yeah, you got me there:D..Only thing you didn't say (as usual, context is important) was that guy COULD NOT UNDERSTAND why the high and rising prices of gasoline are coming about as crude falls...Completely contrary to the normal "Supply and Demand" debacle, and NO, he don't have an answer either, except, DRILL BABY DRILL...Plus You see it affecting everyone as we speak..This BHO stimulus package has not even been signed (tomorrow Feb 17th)..and the AAA guns are already blazing from the disputant naysayers...

According to BHO, the public would be allowed to review for a week all legislation and I would say this was a pretty important one to review, so we could have given our ideas, but it was kept behind close doors and just dribs and drabs allowed out. That was one of his compaign promises and if we aren't even aware what's in the package until becomes law, why even open our mouths. But pols are liars so I never expected this promise to be kept.

So, in summary, only those that have experience in a given field are allowed to object, since they would be the only ones with the experience to offer alternative solutions. That's what what our Pols in congress are saying now, that they know better than us on how our tax dollars are to be spent, since they did read all 1000+ pages of the package. Huh, that almost sounds elitist from here.

Sorry for going on so, but put up or shut, just doesnt strike me as being very American. And nnuut is right, nothing makes any sense in the market or economy and it'll just get worse, cause the rules of the game, they are a changin.

Just speaking, from the POV of a concerned American citizen, from the heart, and based on just my principles or morals. It's all moot now, it's all over. Here's Hoping it works, we'll see how well that works out for us. :D
