So I LOVE your reasoned, rational responses to the flames !!! You Go, Girl !!! Birch had his approach, and stuck to it !

In the end, we ALL make our own investment decisions...that's what makes this Board great !!! Others slam the Premiums ; slam Q ; slam Burro and his Ark ! Whatever... Go it alone, or pick the one that you're comfortable with...

Waiting for the good Doctor to reveal his awesome strategy...maybe set up a "premium service" here, with back tested returns that beat the crap out of others ???

Another approach to the flamethrowers is just to block them and move on. Can't remember the last time I got anything of value from one. Life is too short to waste time on them.

No one sent me here, nnuut can tell you that based on the IP (he also said don't take the bait, so beware). I love the paranoia here, it's great!

My strategy is buy and hold with a fairly aggressive approach. Pretty much that simple.

Also that isn't the topic of this thread. The topic being discussed here is that there are too many damn sub forums, some of which that haven't had a post in five years.

You make a valid point. However, some of those old threads still have some good information in them. But it wouldn't hurt to clean up some areas. Then again it would be discouraging to see nnuut's posts fall from 40000 posts to maybe 25000 posts because we deleted some old threads. He's a posting machine. How can you take something like that away from a hall of famer. Just saying. :D

my grandma hasn't had a real poop in five years, but that doesn't mean we stop feeding her, or keeping her old underwear around.

Thanks, a semi-serious post. Not here to rain on nnuuts historical posting prowess, you guys could have said that in the 2nd post. ;)
 
Maybe merge some of the sub forums? Of the 47 non-premium services forums listed on the front page, only 14 have posts as recent as a week ago. 7 of those forums (not counting the rules forum) have not had a post in over a year. I won't be presumptuous enough to offer suggestions on what to merge, also don't shoot the messanger. Just an observation to get more people in fewer places, in my experience that is beneficial.

Just sit back and try to enjoy the forums here...They been around and so have the members, a hell of a lot longer than you have..Most folks just visit their preferred forums and ignore the rest..I suggest you do the same and not try to run the site..

Tom's personal PM or email accounts are always available to you for any suggestions you may think are relevant...The rest of us will just accept whatever outcome he feels is beneficial to the forums...

Then you always have the option of starting your own Money Talk forum and do with it as you see fit.

What does this matter? I'm not trying to run the forum Jeff, I'm trying to improve it. Seems like too many cliques here for anyone new to really contribute, and I have no idea who Tom is. if he's the guy with the Razorback profile pic, I'm not interested.

This is Tom's avatar and he is the Administrator of this website.
We have discussed it briefly but you have to be careful when you start deleting things because of references to the forums deleted. Some of the older forums have good archived information for investing which we seem to have gotten away from.
We always like folks that contribute. DrDetroit don't give up and keep suggesting.
 
Some of the political threads will likely be done away with after November. Candidate and POTUS specific threads won't be of much interest or use after that. I've never really noticed the number of subs being an issue. I just search for key words and go from there.
 
i prefer to listen to only what i want to hear and see only what i want to see. which i understand is a micro aggression against folks who want to hear different and see different and want me to hear and see different too. which is kinda funny because their demands that i do it their way are just as micro aggressiony as my demands they do it mine. some games you just can't win.
 
We will delete rule breaking posts, but deleting old posts just to make room or make less cluttered is not how to manage or organize a forum, just as news sites don't delete old stories. Yes, forums can get large but normally the old stuff makes its way to the bottom, though it's still available to search.

We have a good sized forum with over a half million posts, but compare that to the big ones and you can see that we are tiny in comparison.

The Biggest Boards - Size Matters

The larger ones have tens and hundreds of millions of posts, with the top one having 8.5 billion posts.

I'd like to BleachBit a few conversations, but that's just not the way it's done. :)

Hmmm... I just checked out the 8.5 billion post forum and it says it "only" has 3.7 million posts right now. Maybe they're purging posts, I don't know.

The twoplustwo.com poker forum does have 49 million posts.
