Stoplight's Account Talk

Spent some of that cash today...bought another lot of Waste Management (WM) for my "buy-and-hold" stocks. It's paying a decent dividend, and I figure, regardless of what the Feds or the economy does, people will always need their garbage collected !

Ok, I can't resist...Now your just trash talking!

Nothing investment-related this time !!! BUT...we got a final invoice from the Guy we're working with, for our trip to Peru, in September !!! The Guy has included the costs for us, and Grand-Niece Sonja, to hit all the highlights (Cusco ; Sacred Valley ; Machu Piccho ; Puno and Lake Titacaca ; overflight of the Nazca "Lines" !!!

WOW !!! I had to figure out how to send a wire transfer, but I did, and now we're booked for a tour of Peru with the Kid ! TOO COOL that she's getting the time off from school, and will be able to join us on this trip !!! A COOL 60th birthday (me) and 30th wedding anniversary (us) trip !!!

I think I peed myself....:D

This is what "retirement" is all about...

Hey, Kona !!! I told the Kid that we AREN'T eating guinea pig !!! I had a pet when I was a kid... :D

She said "Okay...but you HAVE to try the beef heart !!! It's delicious !!!" This, coming from a Kid that's NOT a big meat eater ??? Yikes !!!

All,

GEEZ !!! I go away for a long weekend (that's what "retired people" sometimes do !), and I get more PMs than I've received in 8 years as a TSPTalk member ! :D I'm back, and will catch up ASAP....I appreciate the PMs !!!

We went to our "Annual Reunion" with our group of 8 Old Friends and Co-Workers from my job, 30+ years ago...the person who organized it this year picked a neat A-frame house on the Suwannee River in north central Florida...we try to pick a place that's central to all, so nobody has to travel too far...of course, we're one of the farthest....

In retrospect, it was too funny ! The house was so far out in the "boonies", it had spotty cell service, and no wi-fi nor high-speed internet coverage...so this Group of 8 people, aged 60-70, had to learn, once again, how to live like they ALL did, BEFORE texts, email, and Google ! We all swore we heard banjo music, as we drove down the dirt roads to the house, "Way Down Upon the Suwannee River ; Far, Far Away" !!!...

For the record, my Garmin GPS (Nuvi 1300 with lifetime maps, updated before we left)) NAILED the exact location, while others wandered in the wilderness with their Tom Tom and smartphone GPS apps ! :D

New pet/house sitter, a 24-year old young woman neighbor and college Student, getting her Master's degree, was awesome !!! No trash can full of pizza boxes nor beer cans...Reminded us of Sonja...sharp, responsible, and trustworthy ! She said : "Had a blast with your Dogs !!! Let me know when you need me for the Peru trip...I'm there !!! :D

More soon !!!

OK...so the net is back up today, for me, after some bad storms in the area...I'm back in touch with the WWW !!!

Investments : Accrued some stock in Chemours (CC) based on their spin-off from my DuPont holdings...kinda short in this sector, so I might add more on this dip...

Personal : We've finalized our airfare and ground tour to Peru in mid-September...the Wife and I are good to go !!!

So we got an email from the Kid...last Friday was "Teacher Day" in Peru...she sent an email with these pics !!!

Lordy, I just LOVE these !!! These are some happy Kids...just being Kids.... ...and a happy Teacher, too ! :D

Guess it doesn't matter WHAT part of the world you live in, or what your "station in life" is ! Wish I could leave behind all those "grown-up" thoughts and worries, and just embrace that "joy" again !!!

Did you Guys figure out which one was our Grand Niece ??? :D

I don't like to post so much about the "Kid" here, but there are Folks who have expressed an interest in her experiences, and she hasn't had the time to post much to her blog, so I feel a need to keep Folks here up-to-date...

Thanks to all y'all for the love and support you are showing her !!!

Hola amigo !

So you are not adventurous enough to try the local cuisine of "cuy" while in Peru? So how about sleeping in a pod on the side of a mountain?! :D

I took a river raft trip on the Urubamba River in the Sacred Valley and we passed by these pods. I wish I had known about this hanging hotel, I might have tried to book a night in one. Maybe next time. I would recommend booking a river raft trip if you have the time. The raft trip was more of a float than a raging white water and the scenery was gorgeous.

A picture of the pods as we floated by....btw, the only way off the pods is by zip line! Wheeeeeee!

Hola, KK !

Geez...you are ONE CRAZY WOMAN !!! :D

Don't know if we can deviate from the "tour" at this point...but even if we could, not sure I'd want to sleep on the side of a mountain, either !!!

Here's what scares me....I think Sonja and you are "kindred spirits"...We sent her the latest itinerary, and she responded :

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! I am so excited! It all looks amazing...I will email you more later with some things that I have researched as well. Looking forward to spending time traveling the world... much love! -Sonja" :D

She'll probably say we need to get pods...:D

  Crazy is probably one of my better qualities, because if I didn't have a little cra-cra in my personality; life would be boring.

I found this video on YouTube showing exactly what the SkyLodge Adventure Suites is all about. I'm going to email a copy of the video to Sonja to let her know you had mentioned you might be interested in this adventure. :sgrin: Cha Chachaaaa!

Kona,

Now THAT'S just not right !!! :D

Actually, the river raft/"float" idea sounds neat...we did a little white-water rafting in PA and West Virginia, when we lived in Maryland...had a blast !!!

Did you book through that tour operator that shows up on the link you sent ?

Sorry, I didn't book the raft trip, so I can't confirm who we went with. I asked my friend if he remembered the company name, but he couldn't remember either.

Your guide/travel agent in Peru should be able to hook you up with a company.

I have been on two other white-water rafting trips, one on the Rio Grande River in New Mexico (tame) and a white knuckler on the Snake River in Wyoming. I think I prefer just floating along on the rivers enjoying the scenery. It's a blast alright.

I don't have a clue how you even get up into one of those things. But you've got a crazy cool view from there I imagine. My luck....the dang thing would fall off the mountain....then what a view on the way down..:laugh::laugh:
