ss supplement question

I am a recent FERS retiree, (30 JUN). I keep getting info from OPM reference my interim pay but it does not address my SS supplement. How long does that usually take to get straightened out? I have been trying to call them but it is either busy or no answer. Thanks for any help.

My understanding with the SS supplement you will not start receiving it until OPM finalizes your interim pay which can be any wheres from a few months to a year. they then start paying you your SS suplement and will also pay back what was owed from the first day you started receiving your retirement pay. so you will get a big check after your interim pay changes to full retirement pay hope this helps

My OPM issues took about nine months after retirement to settle. Took awhile, but it all worked out finely.

Welcome to the Forum everyone I must have missed you somehow? Retirement processing is actually taking a little less time since I retired in 2010 that's good but it still takes toooooooo Loooong hang in there it will happen.

My thanks to all who responded. The info really helped. I had sent OPM an email and they said they would get back to me within 20 business days if it wasn't a complicated issue. Sigh.

I retired 12/31/2012 and was finalized this week, the SSS was in my backpay as an earlier post alluded to. OPM sends a booklet with all the information you need to ensure you received the SSS.

Wow, that's back to 8+ months to process. With the obvious increase in retirements end of this year I guess I should expect a long wait next year for mine to be processed. Fed's are dropping like flies in my agency, and I am sure the same can be said of others.

I've heard from recently retired friends that processing is taking 3-4 months. It depends on your individual situation. I would give OPM 90 days and then "gently" start enquiring about your status via e-mail and phone. Get a contact person name handling your case, the OPM Customer service person should have it. I found this to help nudge things along..

I was contacted yesterday by someone haven't talked to in 30+ years, looking to jump agencies due to conditions in their own. wow, talk about networking at warp speed among those too young to retire yet.

Clog, congratulations, you made it! Don't worry about OPM, their wheels grind slowly but they will come through for you. Surely you expected delays and saved up a war chest? So what are your plans?

I expect 6-8 months next year. With the wave of retirements and cut back on OT at OPM,it might get longer. Guess I'll put off the European vacation I had planned to take next summer. May need the cash to pay bills until I am finalized.

I have friends who work for the State of California, Cal-PERS processes and finalizes their retirement in a matter of days. Go figure.
