During the 1976 Swine Flu vaccination program introduced during the Ford Administration, there was a great deal of discussion about this- Some believed that the reactions from the vaccination caused more harm than the flu itself did.
Of course, we'll never know, because the swine flu of 1976 never materialized in the mass deaths that some predicted. This one- the H1N1, is similar, in that we just don't know today what the extent of infection, nor the lethality will be. All we can do is the best we can do. Make a vaccine, and make sure those who are at greatest risk get the vaccine. The rest of us just keep clean and do the best we can.
As for me- well, we'll see.

In case you're not inclined or prioritized for vaccine, here's another option to be aware of. functional antiviral face masks, FDA in process of approving them for use in this country. Hong Kong company developed during the SARS years.
