It's very positive to see a site dedicated to TSP -- which has so many participants. Many of these participants are not financial professionals. The key to the TSP is maintaining an allocation one is comfortable with for the long-term. Also, an investor must recognizenobody can time the market.

I am a participant in the TSP. I do have financial management expertise. Hopefully I can provide insight to folks. Sol

Another good resource for folks trying to get a feel for market timing is www.bobbrinker.com. Bob has a national show that is very popular. He has been successful with telling folks when to get in-and-out of the market. He has a national show (you can find your local station at his website) and a newsletter.

I know Bob Brinker has a long time following but for some reason I have a hard time listening to him. I like is message, he's just a little dry for me. I like when Larry Kudlow fills in for him.

Brinker's approach seems to be intermediate to long term which is how 90% of people should manage their money. I put my longer term comments with longer term allocation suggestions out there forpeople to see which like I said, is how most people should approach investing,but this site seems to have piqued interest in the shorter term. It may or maynot give them (us) any more gains but it will sure help peoplelearn more about the market.

Just the fact the readers have sought out a site like this tells me they want to have a little more control of their retirement accounts. So whether that is good or bad, my short term comments will probably always be the focus of this site. Oh, and of course this message board which has really become a great source for information.

My question to you is those of us comming up on 15 years are entitled to a $30000.00career bonus is it smart to take it and put it in tsp for growth or not take it and stick with the 50% retirement.

Onecould figure it out, but it would be based upon assumptions: a) expected returns from TSP funds, b) present value for all calculations, c) analysis of other investment opportunities for the lump-sum.

May I ask why you are receiving the lump-sum?
