Sentiment Survey

that's a great business model,

get free materials from people, to build your widget then sell it back to the same people who GAVE YOU the free materials for a profit. some people call that.............. (fill in the blank) :embarrest: for u!!!

Really? I'm surprised to hear this from you. Did you drink the entitlement koolaid too? The results of the surveys will still be there... for free, or I guess I can use the AAII data too. By the way, only members of AAII can even vote in their survey.

(read in FWM ganga voice he uses to harass birch)

I will say this. I have never paid a dime to do what we do here. I have met some cool people and few A-holes. If it cost me 9 bucks Im good with that. Ill call it the cost of doing business, it sure beats raging bull or facebook.

Yes, 9 bucks is okay with me too.

I should have never started this thread. But then again, most of my past posts have been controversial or adverserial.

Well...this is a good discussion of TSPTalk's sentiment survey...my personal opinion on this is...

I can't say as though I blame him...If he is honestly losing money through the offering of this information for free than by all means charge for it. With just a few caveats though...1.)If you're already signed up to take the survey before he turns it into a pay service then you get access to the data for free, I feel that's only fair...because it's everyones opinion that drives the results. 2.) take the survey off the home page and only use the data of those who are signed up to take the survey, 2a.) or if you're going to leave it on the homepage for everyone and their brother to take...separate the data and only give the data from the home page a weighted factor in the overall results.

But as for TSPTalk charging for the service...I don't blame him at all...I would too...the survey tool/model is accurate and you can't argue the results!

Just my 2 cents although inflation has only made them worth 1 cent so take what I say with a grain of salt...LoL!:D

I agree with charging for the info the survey provides but you need to consider what I wrote below.

My only concern is you may get less participants contributing to the data once you start charging for it. Statistically, the results could become far less reliable as you have less data points populating the equation. If it remains free I think it will be far more robust and reliable. my 2 cents. Tom if you think you will continue to get enough data you need for the survey to be valid than a small fee for the results is acceptable.

I disagree. I think this has brought us an opportunity to share opinions. That sharing of opinions is what this site is all about.

I with you on this weatherweenie. JKenJohnson just asked asked for some clarification on a question he had. And as often happens on forums, misunderstandings can occur. We jump to conclusions without actually considering that there is another side to the story. "Don't judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes."

Hopefully we will all come away from this with a better understanding of the costs, the time, and the dedication it takes to keep a site such as this, up and running. And for all we get from this site, what is asked of us? Financially -- $0.00, nada, nothing!

  • Tom recaps/graphs/analyzes the day's financial picture every night.
  • He gathers/compiles/sorts/posts all the IFT's into a format where we can see how we (and others) are performing -- and gives out lots of prizes.
  • He fixes glitches/moves posts to correct board/moderates disagreements as well as many other administrative matters which a site as large as this must require.
  • Kudos to the moderators too, for I'm sure they do a lot of this as well. Probably more than we will ever know.

I only have two words that would adequately sum this up. THANK YOU!
  • to jkenjohnson for starting this thread;
  • to Tom and the moderators for all you do to keep this site up and running so smoothly; and
  • to all the members here who provide insight/knowledge/support/inspiration and who generate a chuckle or two along the way!

Personally, I would like to see a tip jar on the front page so I could contribute a dollar or two along the way!

In the old days I would walk a mile for a camel - I gave up smoking when I was in Vietnam and never went back.

I'm pretty confident that won't be a problem. I talked about that yesterday... http://www.tsptalk.com/mb/sentiment-survey-system-talk/17724-sentiment-survey-2.html#post419943

I'll be honest with you...

I really didn't migrate to this site to get a free mug, or teeshirt, or anything of the sort.

I came here for investment guidance and to make my TSP account grow into something substantial...and as a bonus it just so happened to be free advice...I'm not going to hold it over TSPTalk's head that he is now charging for what used to be free...I'm cool with that!

But, I'm saying I can't afford to pay for it so now I'm on my own again and have to figure out the best way to invest based on what I know. (which ain't much)

Hey TSPtalk...can you at least let us know when we flip or about to flip from a bull to a bear market and vice versa? LoL...that might be helpful ;)

Maybe?

If not...it's cool!

Cheers to all!
