Sensei's account talk

'CAPITULATION'?? I thought you said it was because of all of us 'bearish lummoxes'?!?

Seriously though, there sure were a lot of moves to the lily pad today. I did stay in equities 50%, however.

Didn't mean any disrespect. I was going for irony, but it was late at night and I was a little sleepy. I'm the bearish lummox who sat in the G fund while stocks kept climbing. When I got out a couple weeks back, I did so thinking I was making a contrarian move, but it turned out the herd was thinking the same thing. As a result, I/we got left behind. The herd was 50% on the sidelines yesterday, so flip a coin as to which direction we go from here.

Once again, I find myself moving with the herd, instead of against it. Tuesday brought new IFTs, and with that about 7% moved back into stocks. It now appears that 40% are on the side (G&F), while 60% are in the stock funds. Not over the top bullish, but if the rally does continue, I don't think it will be until late next week or the week after that. Still, I'll hold my position for now.

Anybody here work for DFAS? No agency pisses me off more than this one. Every time I file for a reimbursement, I always get an automated email saying to wait "8 business days" for action. No action is ever taken prior to the 8th business day. Then they always make a practice of denying the reimbursement the first time, requiring me to resubmit the paperwork and wait another "8 f-ing business days". You guys %&#$%@ & @#$^$!!!

My son-in-law does out of the Cleveland office. But he covers pensions and survivorship benifits. Sorry about your waiting times and runaround.

Thanks, and sorry to defame your son-in-law's agency. The people who dink with me are in Rome, NY. I'm sure it's not actually their fault. They're probably understaffed for the number of claims that come across their desk.

The whole reimbursement process should be clarified and streamlined. For example: I'm entitled a flight home every summer as Renewal Agreement Travel (RAT). I buy my own tickets, and file for reimbursement upon my return. It should be a simple process. I filed the paperwork the same way I have for the last five summers, but it was denied because I did not specifically attach a memo stating that "I procured my own tickets with a personal credit card". If I hadn't procured my own tickets, is there any reason I would be filing for reimbursement? If they need that explicit statement, why isn't there a dropdown box somewhere on the form? Why should I have to include a separate memo? I'm already providing copies of my receipt and flight itinerary. In my opinion, the company line is to make the process as complicated as possible for the person filing for reimbursement, so that the person might eventually throw up his hands in defeat and accept less than his full reimbursement. If the person does not capitulate, at least the govt. gets to hang on to the money a few weeks longer and earn a little extra in interest.

Sorry, I'm p-o'ed and tired. It's a school night and the S-fund is losing. Off to bed for me. ZZZzzzzz....

PEIX tanked like 15%, but bounced off the 50 SMA and recovered half its losses. Down over 7% on the day. Bigger tail than a Kardashian sister. Where will it go from here?

It freaked me out. I almost sold everything. Any idea why it tanked? Didn't see any news on it. I have overall return +245% or there abouts so I can handle a little pain. But geez, could I get a little warning sometime?

Seriously. I have an average purchase price of a little over $4/share, but I only bought $600 of it. Still, that $600 is about $3000 now. Not bad. I'm going to hold it a while longer - I have no idea what moves its price. For the past several months I've asked myself, "is this the time to sell?" Maybe it's just a BT wallflower that finally decided to bloom.

Corn. Watch the corn crops and price and demand. If it's a bad winter, I'm selling.
I might not understand but if we have bad weather we would have less corn and the price should go up? Now we are in a glut, most corn in years.

Right...bad weather=less corn=higher corn prices=higher cost to make ethanol. The glut helps in the event of a drought or freezing temps. during planting season. I'm no expert....Just something to keep an eye on.

Oh, my bad I thought you were investing in CORN.

Pacific Ethanol, to my knowledge, does not pay a dividend. That leaves you with 1 way to make money. Appreciation, bought it for a dollar and sold it for $10. There is another option however it's based on future unknowns. Example: Ford stopped paying dividends in 2006, when the 08-09 financial debacle ocurred most staocks tanked, some to the point where buying them seemed like a good idea. I purchased a significant amount of Ford mainly for the potential appreciation value. Now it pays a dividend. :D
You never know.

PEIX is down like 25% in the last 3 days. LMAO. And I'm taking a flogging in the S-fund. LMAO some more. Buy high, sell low, right?

Sensei, it is a FULL MOON it is time to buy big time... Cramer: Russell 2000 death cross bull signal? I belief we had or we will be hitting bottom tomorrow Friday October 10th... Nevertheless... I will be patient and wait till the next round just to be safe... I know it will cost me to go south very deep on the auto-tracker... my next enter point is October 27th, 2014; and as always this bottom will be re-tested then... :)

Geez, Sensei.... I hope you and your family will be safe from Super Typhoon Vongfong! That looks like some scary caca !

And I thought I heard on the news tonight a 6.? earthquake hit somewhere near Toyko? I think you and your family need to come back to the US. Japan' s a disaster area these past years.

Super Typhoon Vongfong set to unleash 120mph winds on Japan | Daily Mail Online

Sensei, the same here... Hope U and U Family doing fine... B Praying 4 U Safety...

Hey guys, thanks for the concern! Vongfong came and went, taking very little besides my 3 day weekend. It was somewhat overhyped, but I'll take overhype instead of under-hype any day when it comes to typhoons. Hopefully this will be the last one of this season...

Things have been kind of $hi++¥ for the last couple months, so I haven't been hitting the forum as much as usual. The wife is half-way through chemo. Not much to say on that front - it's worse for her than it is for me, but I hate doing a half-a$$ed job at work, and that's basically the area I've had to sacrifice in order to keep things going at home. She'll be done by Christmas, and hopefully this cancer will be behind us for good.

Meanwhile, I bought back into the S-fund around its peak, and have held on throughout this correction. The only saving grace is that I had sold half my TSP at the beginning of the year when I took out a loan. I'm now aggressively paying that off, buying back more shares of an ever-devaluing S-fund. I still have over 25 years before I hit 65, so what better time than now to become a disciple of Birchtree? It's dark out there, man. Real dark. We should all be buying more...

Hey, how's it going? Lots of people here at TSPTalk have been reaping the gains of this rally. Makes me wonder when the rug is going to get pulled out from under us.

Also in a quandry over Facebook. Not the stock, but the social media site/app itself. I started on it many years ago as a way to keep in touch with CLOSE family and friends who lived far away from me. A way to let them see pics of the kids and what not. Over time, I've been invited by several less important (sounds bad, but it is what it is) people in my life to be friends. Sometimes I ignore, but sometimes I feel it would be awkward not to accept - especially if it's someone I work with or see on a routine basis. What is more, the people I really care about hardly ever even use their frigging accounts! Long story short, I have too many FB friends. I can't post anything that could be perceived as an opinion without someone getting butthurt about it. It's not as effective as old school email in terms of keeping in touch with my parents and siblings, but... BUT! There are some FB pages that are extremely valuable - like the ones maintained by the local US bases here. They give important info on events, typhoons, etc. So I can't just quit FB. I guess I could just start de-friending people. That might get a little dicey too. Geez, man. Life used to be simpler. :embarrest:
