RealMoneyIssues' Account Talk

My very conservative, Jesus loving, gun toting, wife would disagree with you... You are painting with a VERY broad brush... do you live in CA or NYC?

no broad brush here just going by what I see all around me every day...elections and laws have consequences and we are seeing that with almost half the country not working for ex...
anyways...I really do enjoy reading your thread...I have thick skin and maybe shouldn't assume everyone else does...that was fun...conversation/arguments are productive to have...I maybe like them too much...oh well

RMI,

Now be careful - those girls in the back office margin dept. don't play. It's always best to try and stay one step ahead of them.

Yeah, I got the email this morning so I already transferred a chunk of cash hoping we would see some selling... but since we didn't, I sold everything and didn't really need to transfer it, oh well.

I will deal with that later.

I am totally in cash now, so I am going to take a break and re-evaluate my "system"... it has failed me this year, more so on this trade than on any other...

Good luck to everyone!

Systems don't work - I prefer visual flight rules and flying by the seat of my pants. That doesn't mean there shouldn't be discipline braced with courage. When my margin finally opens up, I plan to buy as much happiness as I can afford - or rather spend as much money as I can gather in my direction. Margin is dangerous but it can offer tremendous buying power and therefore profit potential. It's the only way I like to fly. I suspect you'll look back and realize you just panicked a little but there in is the lesson. You always get the opportunity to start over and we've all experienced some panic at some point. I've given up several small fortunes over the years but have always rebounded even stronger. Follow Ferdinand to greener pastures.

I look at the societal rot gut that has been going on for decades now...teachers,like you say, have a great role in that...I know parents are more responsible than teachers for that...but I lump in all the liberal yahoos out there including teachers and parents...it's an uphill fight for us conservatives trying to de-brainwash our kids...home schooling...pardon me for swearing...is the way to go...i would want my future wife/girlfriend to stay at home barefoot and in the kitchen raising and teaching while I work...times were better back then and everybody knows it but too scared to say it... wouldn't be pc

Sounds like your the one that's been brainwashed.

Futures are up based on China data and Asia is bouncing too. I guess when the European markets get wind of it, they too will pop...

Glad I got out, looks like more bonuses for the bulls, and BS for the bears.

G'Nite all!

Man, I read some of that crap rcknfreud spewed about teachers. Funny stuff. Sounds like his ex was bad at being a wife, so it doesn't surprise me she was bad at being a teacher as well. No reason to assume all teachers are that way though.

Anyway, I don't claim to be a miracle worker or hold myself above others for any reason based on the fact that I'm a teacher. Like Nnuut alluded to, I would be working summers if I had the option. I always did in California. My vacation time ended up being 3 weeks in the summer, 2 weeks in the winter, and 1 week in the spring, along with the other national holidays. Now, as a DoDDS teacher, I don't have the option to work summers, because they don't offer summer school at the high schools. It might ease your pain to know that I'm not on the payroll during that time. The only one paying my salary during the summer is me. We have to be on 21 pay periods during our first year, then we can choose to prorate our salary over 26 pay periods after that. In California, also, I was only paid on a 10 month schedule. I had a special credit union account set-up with automatic payroll deductions so that I'd have what appeared to be a normal salary in the summer.

Basically, I don't think teachers are underpaid. If you break down the daily salary, we get paid just about right. I think there are more than a few bad teachers out there that don't deserve what they get, and rcknfreud's ex-wife probably fits in that category. It's a shame the unions protect those bad teachers, but I don't think that's a good enough reason to detest unions outright. The unions do a lot to ensure the best interests of the students are served as well (that's a topic for a different discussion though).

Anyway, I just got around to checking this site today and saw all the BS that had been tossed around RMI's thread, and thought if I didn't chime in, you might think I was scared or something. LOL. I look forward to hearing the rcker post more about Pearl Jam, failing at posting YouTube links, and telling us how he runs up a big electricity bill every year on Earth Day. What a rebel.

Ok, decision time...

I have decided to stay in G for the foreseeable future.

My "system" has failed and with a whopping 2.45% so far this year (yes folks, that is all I have for 6 months worth of IFTs and worry) I have to step back and realize I am not cut out for this... At least in the G fund (now getting a 2.125% rate), I will finish the year a little over 3.5%, which will at least keep me above the inflation rate (not the criminally reported Fed inflation rate of <1%).

Sorry BT, but I still have no confidence that the dow will be 30k by 2015, so I won't be parking in C or S...

The F fund is an abysmal failure and more than likely will continue to fail while equities are the only game in town...

So, with no "crystal ball" and a failed "system" I have no choice but to step back and ponder my options before I actually lose money...

Good Luck everyone!!

I dont like the forecast of 10 on the VIX. Just bought August 17 calls at 1.45. I am sitting in the G as well. As soon as I jump in the market will fall!
