RealMoneyIssues' Account Talk

My oceanic account gave back $1 million and I dumped another $800K into the market in December 2008. Kept my dividend reinvestments intact all the way down. Yes, I have made it all back and then some. In retirement you have to be able to absorb pain and keep the strategy intact because that's where the income resides - I let my capital gains take care of themselves until I harvest them at a later date. I bought housing stocks when there wasn't even a cellar yet to call a foundation - that $800K buying spree was a very prescient move and it took immense courage to throw that much more money down an already deep and dark rabbit hole. But that is what age and experience does for an investor. I'll be bullishly buying for the next 15 years and riding the cycles. I'm not trying to be braggadocio but success requires risk.

I hope the market is higher than it is now (triple top) when you need to withdraw the money to live on...

The income stream is forever - as a matter of fact I've now received 66 dividend increase announcements ytd and plan to receive many more. They are like a cola. Last year I had 136 increases and hope to exceed that levels this year.

It is? I guess with over 300 stocks maybe. How many of those dividend stocks stopped their dividends after Sep 2007?

I suppose if you never plan to sell any stocks, then the price never matters... good point

My oceanic account if full of dull and boring stuff - just like it was at the top in 2000. Very few of my stocks omitted their dividends and a few reduced them to conserve cash - it was a grand experiment. I've been building my sacrificial lamb chop account to cover my base incase we head way below the 50 day or the 50 penetrates the 200. I'm ready to spend myself into happiness the first chance I get - waiting on margin to open the floodgates. Spending several million dollars going forward will be easy and of course exciting for an addicted investor - give me those animal spirits.

So, S&P futures were slowly heading down, probably in response to great news out of Japan and Hong Kong...

Then the USD started trading and it went down pretty quick pushing the S&P futures back up...

Gotta love it... Lets see how the futures drive the markets tomorrow.

Good Night Yall

Well, well, well... no one believed the GDP estimates since it came in 2.5 vs 3.1 and there was no reaction by the market (aka, it was already priced in)...

So, with 3 or so billion being pumped into the market today, we should probably see a recovery of the initial lower open to even and then the usual slow fade up on Fridays as the institutional traders go home to their mansions in the Hamptons.

Boring day, "these are not the 'drops' you are looking for..."

You seem to make pretty good calls when you're on the sidelines..:D

I agree, the markets are reacting favorably, I'm getting more optimistic we can rally into May, especially if today closes in the green.

Not the word I would use, nor the emotion... The markets are once again showing gains on "Hopium" and POMO-heroin...

This week's action may mark a pivotal point in the stock market cycle. Both improving fundamentals and technicals have shifted the risk/reward ratio towards the long side while Investors Business Daily has officially called a resumption of an upward trend. It would be irresponsible of me to ignore the markets collective judgement - I'm not going to miss this wild, wooley beast of a ride.

"With Jupiter fast approaching its conjunction to Neptune in late May through mid-July, there is a geocosmic basis for thinking that any decline right now may hold above those lows of March, and then be followed by another rally to higher highs." The planets are talking.

We got your back!!!

Nice long week-end (for me), markets are up this morning, $7 billion in fed pumping over the next 2 days (last 2 trading days of April)...

All means the bulls will come out in force and push the markets up and make the sheeple buy in at the highs :D

New IFTs on Wednesday so it looks like many of us will be hitting the stocks on Wednesday to pile more money into this SINKING SHIP...

Have a great day!

In bear markets you shouldn't be trying to guess bottoms and in bull markets you shouldn't obsess over tops. I believe buying individual stocks will continue to be the best way to make money in the market. The fear of being out is now eclipsed by the fear of being in.

And as soon as I can buy individual stocks in my TSP, I will consider your method... :D

Well everyone should participate in equities if they can. It will be a rare opportunity to grow wealth. Open an on line brokerage account.
