Post Your "12-Month Personal Rate of Return"

Best ever, still seems inadequate compared to what some of y'all did in 2013, but I have to be happy with it.
In fact if I ever complain about >15%, someone please punch me.
I was once told that a person should expect to earn better than 8% in investments and consider it successful.
Seems kind of modest, what do y'all think is a reasonable expectation?

Bernie Madoff promised his clients 12%. He could've just done what a few people here are doing, actually been legal, and kept everything above 12% for himself and still be living the good life today.

Out of the 800 msgs on this thread I wonder what the highest PIP posted ever was. I saw remark at some point last year had over 40%. Maybe the highest occurred in 2009. I might go looking.

Ooops, I now see that this thread started at the end of 2010.

Truthfully, I thought about pulling back to the G Fund a dozen times, but I managed to pack up my password info in a box during my PCS move to Germany back in April. Getting a new one was on my to-do list, but I never got around to it until last week. Worked out well.

:D

January sure hurt me, but at least I found this website early enough to do an ITF last week.

Down from last month, only because last year was a bit rough at the beginning. Already see such a huge improvement coming!

Moving in the wrong direction this month, but still acceptable. My long term average is still north of 12% so all is good.

Maybe we should start posting what the S&P 500 is doing to see how everyone compares. At the end of Dec, the S&P 500's one year return was 29.59%. At the end of Jan, it was 19.03%. I'll try to remember to update it monthly.

Since a lot of these folks were probably in the S fund, maybe posting the Wilshire 4500 would be good too... just a thought
