On That Day

Remembering that day, 9-11-2001, still makes me very sad, and angry, and proud.

Trying to keep everything in perspective too, for That Day is coming.

Re: On That Day

Happy Thanksgiving to all my TSPTalk friends!

One of my favorite songs from The Gettys

My heart is filled with thankfulness
To Him who walks beside;
Who floods my weaknesses with strength
And causes fears to fly;
Whose ev'ry promise is enough
For ev'ry step I take,
Sustaining me with arms of love
And crowning me with grace.

Re: On That Day

Here is President George Washington's Thanksgiving Day Proclamation from 1789. I highly doubt George Washington could get elected today once this was read by the media, but this is NOT a political post.

Thanksgiving Proclamation

Issued by President George Washington, at the request of Congress, on October 3, 1789

By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and—Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favor, able interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other trangressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.
Go. Washington

NOTE TO SELF

Attn Moron,

The point of having a system is that YOU FOLLOW THE STINKIN' SYSTEM! You will not, ever again, allow fear to drive your decision making and run to the G Fund before your indicators have made the call for you to do so. Your most recent idiotic move has locked you into a 3% loss and you are now missing the 1% bounce today that would have softened the blow. All because you were too stupid to FOLLOW THE SYSTEM!

I fully expect this to be a learning experience for you and not a pattern going forward. You can expect harsh and drastic consequences if this behavior is not corrected.

Sincerely,

PLANO

Re: On That Day

You can always adopt a pet child for second opinions - Mindylou is my answer and I never need or use a system.

PLANO, even following a system isn't fool proof because the market often seems to know how to trigger our system against us. That bit me last summer when I sold on day two of a big drop only to find it going up without me after that because I could not chase the rally.

I now think a system needs to be nimble and changable in changing market conditions. That is where I think we are now. 2014 is not 2013 and January is an introduction to that fact. The question you need to ask yourself now is what are you going to do about that.

Borrowed this from the analysis link in my sig.

Apparently the % of S&P 500s pricing above their 200 DMA has now dropped below 75% and this may be another bear flag. Thoughts on this?

edit: it's not letting me display the chart, but it's #32 if you go to the link below.

Yes, that's it, thank you sir. I don't know why I couldn't get it to work right.
I print screen, paste it into MS Paint, cut out the part you want, start new and paste your selection, save it and upload it into your post. EASY!

I did well buying the last dip so I decided to try it again. Still trying to make-up for first of the year losses.

100% G COB

Will be looking for the next buy/dip soon because I think we're still headed in the right direction.

As of 11:30am I'm getting the dip I was hoping for so I'm moving back in 100% S. Here's hoping the dip holds or expands before COB.

You got that right, I'm the dip for jumping back in yesterday. I was so happy to get the 1% drop I was looking for and now I get to ride it down another 1%+ today. pffffft
Look on the bright side. You could be like me: out for all the gains & in for all the losses. :o
