Life is so short. Live each day as it may be your last. My condolences to his friends and family.
 
I am in shock. RIP Burrocrat. He and I had an occasional exchange of emails about jobs and stuff.

Does anyone have any details? I feel the need for closure.

Very sorry to hear about Burro's death. RIP Burro! Hope you get to enjoy all your favorite things in the hear after! You will be greatly missed!
 
This is so sad to hear. My heart grieves for his son. Thank you, jp, for sharing your visit with Burro,,,
 
Thinking on Burrocrat, reminds me, back in July 2016, burro and nnutt were so supportive to me. The discussion on July 4, veterans enduring their pains, and then again with the noise of the fireworks. My son, Naval Rescue Swimmer, Ret., trying to get thru the days, especially the nights. His medical folks got him involved with Warrior Canine Connection in Boyds, MD, a short drive from his home, was just selected as a receipient, and now finishing up intense daily training with his dog.
Warriorcanineconnectio.org is a fantastic outfit, one also in Menlo Park, CA. Very worthy. Check it out. I
I visited last year, everyone very kind, knowledgeable, thorough in vetting for needs. The dogs initial training is by volunteer veterans. The near constant human contact from birth onward, is by volunteers also.. There are video cams at the different activity areas, can be seen at their website, thru explore.org.
My thanx to Burro. to nnutt, and you others who were with me in thoughts and prayers.
 
I am unable to reply to all of your private messages at the moment. I will do so as soon as I get back home to Florida in the next few days. I am at Matt's place in North Dakota trying to leave Matt's elderly father and 15 year old son set up for the next few months while they wade through all the legal hoops. Yesterday i took him to get a haircut and today we are going to the school district to upload his lunch spending account and maybe do a little school shopping as well. We have many conversations about "dad" and he is enjoying reading all your responses. He said "it feels really good to see my dad had so many friends."

So, it sounds like Matt has set up his son up financially, but it will be a couple of years before he has access to those funds. His dad also lived with him. Maybe we should start a GoFundMe campaign to help in some way in the interim. It may not be much, but they still have bills to pay.

Just a thought : Back in early 2016, Burro posted a request in my "Vacation" thread...he was looking for some "waypoints" from Uluru :

well, i have great respect for native culture, having lived on reservations, having a navajo foster brother for a while, having married a (part) nez perce gal - boy could she fight - my son carries the blood, having spent time twice at the bottom of the grand canyon with the havasupai, witnessing hopi kachina dances, and other events i won't mention. i am convinced there are mystical things in this world we don't really understand but are not necessarily contradictory to christianity.

so i have over time in my life collected some 'markers'. not really actual pieces of something sacred, rather something from the vicinity, it is not the origin of the piece but the location, the coordinates which it came from. that uluru is a giant cosmic vortex and i'm building a series of waypoints, to help find the ways in case i get lost in that in-between gauzy world again.

i am not so worried about the first things mentioned in that article: i am familiar with bad luck - and good, i've know sickness - and health, been through a marriage breakup and child custody that made hell seem like a vacation - although it was heaven sometimes, and been close enough to death more than a few times that i'm pretty sure some of them i was on the other side or at least in the transition zone. so that is why it helps to keep markers, to orient yourself, to find your way back, to call in your guide (guardian angels of a sort).

so if you find yourself in a location near uluru where it doesn't violate your moral code to acquire a chip of red sandstone, i would sure enjoy having it. we can work out a deal later.

I got a message from GoFundMe saying my payment violated the Terms Of Service. Perhaps it is because it is like I paid myself? I'm not sure. The TOS is encyclopedic in size so I am just going to try a different payment method. If it also does not work again, I may just have to add my contribution to the check on top of whatever we collect. We'll see.

This is a very sad shock. Since the election in 2016 I haven't been to the forum much, but whenever I did the first thing I wanted to do was to catch up on burro's comments. Truly an interesting and entertaining man, and damn funny! He was also a man of his word, paying up on a bet we had made. I always thought that it sure would be fun to be neighbors with burro.

Yes MrBowl, Burro was very serious when it came to bets as I learned. Some years back I think we bet on how long the Continuing Resolution would last. I tried to "re-negotiate" the terms after it went into CR but he would hear nothing of it... I got an ear full! lol :smile:... I learned you don't play around with Burro when it comes to betting.... in any case, I lost and I happily sent him the sock monkey (plus a couple extra..to make up for the "misunderstanding"... but the best one was a Batman I sent to Santa for his son Jacob..who I think was 12 at the time). I had to learn how to make them... but everyone on the site provided links to YouTube on how to make them... so it worked out really good!! New skill learned.

I also saw Burro making bets with everyone or bartering for things... liquor, rocks, silver... and saw him reward or pay people with TSP Silver. He was a man of his word. I think he ran out or was low on TSP Silver recently and wanted us to mint some more.

He always was rallying people on the site to do new things..TSP silver, TSP poker... oh and remember Burro's Ark... that was a very fun time! Gosh... he will be missed so very much. Still can't believe he is now with God.... just so sad. But we do have great memories of him that we can treasure for years to come. But still.... his passing is very sad and the site will be dimmer without him in it. :( God's blessings to his son and family...

We sure have some very generous people here. I had set a modest goal of raising $1000 for Matt's son and dad, not knowing what kind of response we'd get, but we've passed that already... so I raised it to $1500.

$1000 or $1500 may not be life changing but I hope it helps them with some day to day expenses during this difficult time.

jpcavin gave me their mailing address but I will try to find an email to give them a head's up.

By the way, this was grandma's idea to do something for the family. She reminded me that we did something similar for show-me, who was a moderator here when passed away several years ago.
