Deleted previous post re TMF. In NUGT @ 42.05. Also GDXJ @ 41.02, and NEM @ 26.58. Total about 5% of portfolio.

I'm a buyer today, for sure. More NUGT at $38. I'm keeping these add-on lots smaller than usual, as the market defines its new trading range for the miners.

Sold NUGT at $37.80 from $36.05 entry for 5% gain. Still have 3 lots in the game and 2 in the hopper.

Bought a 5th lot of NUGT at $34. I might do one more buy around $30 if we get there in the next couple of days. The run back up will bring sweet profits. I'm currently DCA'd around $37.

Oleg,
Thoughts on adding to MCD?

MCD is in my DOD (Dogs of Dow) portfolio. I routinely add high yield blue chip stocks to it, namely the 10 highest yield paying stocks in the DJIA. It's not a trading portfolio by any means, so I have no intentions of selling it. I continually dollar cost average into it. I should have noted that when I posted my entry.

I feed my sacrificial lamb chop account to protect my oceanic account from margin selling. My oceanic account is also known as my Birchtree 300 account.

Bought another lot of NUGT at $32 (#6). I would normally stop at 5 lots, but my analysis is showing a multi-week or even multi-month bottom in the miners to occur today or tomorrow, so I have little fear here.

Oleg,

Don't worry...I'll handle the "fear" part for us !

Went in on a small 6th lot this morning at 32.17 ; sold at 33.81 for ~ 5% this afternoon....nice call !!!

Now let's keep the 5 lots heading up ! :D

Stoplight...

oleg, do you plan on selling the lots in a very similar fashion as to how you bought it (~ every $2 up), or do you have other levels for targets?

I did a very similar thing to stoplight, bought at 32.20 and sold at 33.90, but I've still got other lots that I bought higher up around the $34 , $37 , and $42 levels

I calculate the sell targets once a trading range has been established; that has not yet happened. Until then, conservative profits are fine. At these prices, I'll take 5-7% gains per lot all day long. The key is to always cycle in and out of trades as quickly as the market allows you to do so, and have enough capital ready to reinvest in case we chop around for a while before heading back up. Sideways price action in the miners can be lucrative as we saw for a couple months before this recent decline. It's equally important to not lose sight of the eventual volatility that is characteristic of this sector. My initial buy-in for this round was at $42 and change. I wouldn't feel good about this trade if I went "all in" on that initial buy, as I would be down 22% on the trade with no capital left to DCA. Instead, my net buy in price is currently almost at break even and I have already cycled through a couple of profitable lots. Any rebound in price from these levels spells profit for me, whereas the guy holding the large single lot from the mid-$40's is agonizing over recooping his unrealized losses.

Oleg, ca n you explain how you establish the trading range. do you do it on a daily basis.? Also, do you give significant consideration to the opening gap up or gap down? Do you establish the trading range as soon as the gap occurs, or do you wait for a comeback
