Oil Slick Stuff

Yesterday gas was $3.43. I went out for pizza tonight and gas jumped up to $3.79. $4.00 is getting a lot closer.

In Poland I pay just over $6 a gallon, but I only fill up about 4-6 times a year, I can take the Tram for almost everything around here.

In Texas, it seems like more than half the people are driving big trucks. Over here it's about 1%, but we do have a lot more utility type vans, and I've not seen a Mini-van in ages. Here's another interesting useless fact. We have almost zero auto parts stores here, like none. We don't even have those drive-in oil change places, you gotta make an appointment. :cautious:

You could start a Polish Oil Change Quick Stop!

Call it “JHTexas Quick Change”

I bet you’d have customers lines up for miles. (Oops- kilometers)

They haven’t yet had the “do everything from your car” experience yet. It’s ready for advanced Capitalism. Hire some Ukrainian or Belarusian mechanics to do quick oil changes.

Yea I agree it would make for a good business.

But like you said the car culture here is not so strong. We do have a handful of Die-Hard folks who love to show off their vintage American cars. But aside from this, we have no shade-tree mechanic stuff going on anywhere.

I will say I’m having a difficult time getting accurate , open source intel about what’s going on. Mostly finding only official state info from either side, and very little third country news info.

Has anybody gotten a good line on accurate info ? Israel, Iran and the Gujd states all exercise pretty strict control. But what have seen, means I should be seeing more info. Im looking further at The Guarduan, and UK papers, France LeMonde, Germany DW, Where else are good sources?

You're not alone, the paywall trend has been choking good sources. It's also sort of hard to embed journalist in Iran. Add to this the NAVY aspect, since we don't have boots on the ground and the anti-press Defense Secretary.

Ward Carroll & What's Going on With Shipping? are pretty well plugged into current events.

SW Ohio. Yesterday 3.69. Today 3.99. 🤔
Here on the north coast just around the corner the Speedway is $3.99. The BP 3 miles away is $3.59. If I needed a fill up a 6 mile round trip would be no problem. My truck has a 36 gallon tank and with my BP card I get an extra $0.15 off per gallon. My fuel gauge is just under full so I guess I'm good for now.

Over half a billion dollars in oil bets were placed just 15 minutes before President Trump announced Monday he was pausing plans to attack Iranian infrastructure, sending prices plunging.

In a narrow window between 6:49 a.m. and 6:50 a.m. Eastern Time, about 6,200 Brent and West Texas Intermediate crude futures trades were placed — a burst of activity valued at about $580 million, according to the Financial Times. Link

I heard this story last night on our local news radio station (can't not listen to traffic reports in our area unless you want to be stuck wasting your life in horrendous backups..).

I was thinking this could also be in the Congress Trades thread. I mean, that's one lucky duck if they didn't have insider info.

I saw a news article today that gasoline in Australia has now hit $8 a U.S. gallon ($3 aud per liter) and that because of panic buying, 13% of Australian gas stations are completely out of fuel. Austrian gets nearly all of their to oil from Asian countries, and some of that (just a small portion) normally flows from the Mideast.

South Korea has now imposed mandatory price ceilings for automobile gasoline. The maximum price today is $5.68 a U.S. gallon (2000 kr won per liter) . They also are working on an alternate day usage of vehicle emergency order. It is heavily impacted by the cutoff of oil and will suffer a high economic impact.
