Oil Slick Stuff

The Middle East turmoil in Libya sure is giving the oil companies another chance at a quick profit grab as the news continues to build up the story. Yet watching the evening news they were saying that it was in no ones interest to block oil supplies and they all know it. Further, the army has begun taking up with the people against Khadafi. They were cleaning out the armories handing out weapons. When the news crew came through the Border there were no Border authorities there at all. As they drove inland came across no pro Khadafi supporters to be found. It sounds like another despot is going to bite the dust. It could be all this madness will shake out for the better in the end even for us guys at the pumps.

Check out that new VW 2 seater they just had on Yahoo yesterday. 175 mpg turbo diesel / hybrid. It looks like a very interesting basic transportation car than the Smart as it's dirt cheap. It sort of looks like the old mid 50's German ultra compact compact cars but with lots of refinements. This isn't the exact yahoo article I saw yesterday but it is the same basic car though the mileage claims seem to vary a lot. Either way it's a neat little car though it won't carry very much luggage. What's the bet the EPA or DOT find a way to keep this far off shore for our own good?

Did you ever see an Autocycle?

about 400 were made in the 1980's in Owosso, Michigan by the Owosso Motor Car company.

Under the brand name of "Lightstar", and "Pulse".

http://www.autocycles.org/2010.html

Kind of a cross between a motorcycle, and a car.

Now, if you took one of those, and added a hybred drive train, you could just about do anything...

HA! The rolling eggshell is just fine until you collide with something else either static or moving. Then youre dead.

To a point yes but it doesn't have to be that way and it's often very deceiving. With modern cars if you are looking at all that damage it looks horrendous but is actually a calculated sacrifice of the vehicle to slow the impact. A lot of the classic "T" bone injury is mitigated by those hi tech side airbags as well. They, (modern subcompacts) really are in many ways safer than many of your Sport Utes and especially pick ups. Of course you aren't going to get all of this with something like this in it's current form but it's still going to fill a need for many people. As for the Smart car check it's statistics, its safer than most of our tanks we have here. Being made by Mercedes it's big problem is that it's just too expensive for what it is. In fact I haven't see very many in Germany over the years either, even less than the new Bug, which seems to be another rather unpopular car. The Germans tend to drive them in the big cities where you really can tend to get piled up badly though they do park well. Overall I can see a use for something like this for people who live in the boonies as a second or commuter car like I use my Honda Civic for now. ;). Right about now up here in the land of the "Rock Eater" it might not be a good idea to drive one of those.
It looks too much like big gray squirrel. Ol Clem would try to run over it with his Monster 4 X 4 for his dinner. I used to work with an old Customs Inspector up here who would grab his lunch at the roadside occasionally.:embarrest: Oh yea that is true, and I am sure a couple of you guys know exactly who I mean. "Spike":rolleyes:

By Kate Gibson, MarketWatch

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — U.S. stocks on Wednesday fell for a second day, with the Dow industrials suffering their first back-to-back triple-digit decline in eight months, as oil topped $100 a barrel.
“The strife in Libya carries implications that extend well past its borders and clouds the immediate term outlook for the investment markets,” noted Kevin Giddis, executive managing director and fixed-income analyst at Morgan Keegan.
A day after its largest fall since Nov. 16, the Dow Jones Industrial Average [DJIA] was off 103.50 points to 12,109.29, with 21 of its 30 components tallying losses, led by Hewlett-Packard Co. [HPQ] H-P shares fell 11% after CEO Leo Apotheker projected revenue for the current fiscal year will be below expectations. http://markets.usatoday.com/custom/...C&guid={708EEF02-3F5C-11E0-842B-00212804637C}
