I can believe that. There is only a finite amount of any resource. The planet will only support so many people. Remember the Cantrell Oil Field, in Mexico, is drying up fast and we have used much of that reserve. After Mexico shuts us off, to preserve the rest for themselves, we will really struggle to get more oil. Our two closest oil importers will be reduced by 1/3, leaving Canada and Venezuela.

BS!....Not in our life time ...Has everyone forgotten already about what we have underground in Wyoming and Montana?..This kind of worry mongering reminds me of the Global Warming /Ozone hole hype..

yeah, what I said earlier. I've come to believe that people living in hurricane prone areas don't actually panic (well, the newly arrived do)... they just know they are going to be gouged so, they try and beat the post-storm price increases. it's conditioned behavior. if the roads are passable and there's no extended (greater than 8 hours) loss of power, why do you immediately need bread, milk and gas? there is virtually no chance of either one of these in a tropical storm or cat 1...

...reminds me of days of yore, before the stores started staying open on Sundays. You automatically got what you needed Fri or Sat for the weekend. Nowadays, people panic if they find a store closed ANY day of the week !!:rolleyes:

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Crude-oil futures rose Tuesday to above $80 a barrel, pacing gains in U.S. stocks, as the U.S. dollar remained weak and as concerns over the Tropical Storm Ida's threat continued even though the storm reduced its strength as it approaches the Gulf Coast.

Crude futures rise as greenback falls vs. rivals

FRANKFURT (MarketWatch) -- Crude futures rose early Wednesday, as the greenback fell against other major currencies, boosting the appeal of dollar-denominated commodities such as oil.
Crude oil for December delivery gained 58 cents, or 0.7%, to $79.63 a barrel in electronic trading on Globex.

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Crude futures on Wednesday rose above $79 a barrel as data showed China's oil imports rose in October and as higher U.S. stocks boosted sentiment in energy trading.
Crude oil for December delivery recently traded up 21 cents, or 0.3%, at $79.24 a barrel on the New York Weekly petroleum data [more]

CB, I've never seen mention of this before but can explain some of the increases in the price of energy that is/was blamed on speculators. I'm SURE something or numerous things are going on to keep the price of Oil/gas up. One, our energy needs are being ignored by the current administration. Two the whole world knows the USA can't recover without cheap energy, that is what will drive our recovery, without that inflation will take over and down we go. I don't think that ethanol, wind, algae, hydrogen or black magic will get us out of this mess we are in. The new fuels might work but will take 20 to 30 years to develop and provide even a fraction of our energy needs. In the meantime we need fossil fuels and NUCLEAR POWER to survive, we need to DRILL, DRILL, DRILL gusher.gif and develop ways to keep the atmosphere clean until we find another way, STOP being STUPID!! I would never delete one of your posts!!:cool:

I should've said moved and not deleted. I agree we need to drill baby drill, until we come up with something realistic and I'm leaning towards Nat gas. The other alternatives can't supply the required energy, for one reason or another, for all forms of transportation. And we've got the Nat gas :D, w/o burning our food. A few years of bad weather and ethanol is dead.
