Oil seesaws on mixed inventory report

Crude and gasoline supplies post surprise decline, but heating oil base falls less than expected.

February 14 2007: 10:47 AM EST

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Oil prices seesawed Wednesday after the government's inventory report showed a surprise drop in gasoline and crude supplies but a less-than-expected draw in distillates used to make heating oil.
U.S. light crude for March delivery traded down 33 cents at $58.73 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Oil had traded down 36 cents just prior to the report's release, but moved into positive territory just after the report.

Crude slightly higher; traders await natural gas data

</IMG>By Ciara Linnane, MarketWatchNEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Crude-oil futures were slightly higher early Thursday in a continued subdued response to supply data that showed a smaller-than-expected draw in inventories of distillates in the latest week, disappointing hopes the recent cold snap would put a dent in abnormally high supplies of oil and its byproducts.

Crude, natural prices drop to two-week lowsCrude prices fall under $57; last week's declines in heating fuels disappoint
By Myra P. Saefong, MarketWatch
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- The benchmark contracts crude-oil and natural-gas futures dropped to their lowest levels in more than two weeks after U.S. data on heating-fuel supplies failed to reflect the magnitude of the cold snap around the country last week.
Crude for March delivery was last down $1.10 at $56.90 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, after earlier falling to a low of $56.65, the contract's lowest intraday level since Jan. 31. Prices lost almost 2% Wednesday after the supply data were released.

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Crude-oil futures were slightly lower early Friday as forecasts for warmer temperatures in the northeastern U.S. in the coming days dampened expectations for heating fuel demand.

Oil prices up on Nigerian attacks :o

Oil prices rose above $59 a barrel after the US warned of further attacks in Nigeria on oil facilities.

US crude oil settled at $59.39 in New York, marking a $1.4 rise, after the US consulate said militant attacks could affect expatriate workers in Nigeria. The rise was also caused by disruptions at two big North American refineries, temporarily reducing capacity.
