Liberated Iraq calls on Arab states to use oil as 'weapon' against U.S.

A top Iraqi diplomat urged Arab states to “use the weapon of oil” against the United States because of its alliance with Israel, raising more questions about the Middle Eastern nation's allegiance to the nation that freed it from a ruthless dictatorship.
The shocking statement from a democratic government in power only after the U.S. and allies ousted murderous dictator Saddam Hussein in a costly and bloody war laid bare the Middle Eastern nation’s true allegiance.
"Iraq will invite (Arab) ministers to use the weapon of oil, with the aim of asserting real pressure on the United States and whoever stands with Israel," Qais al-Azzawy told reporters in Cairo on Friday.

"The economic weapon is the strongest one to be put into effect now, to assure of standing by the Palestinian people, in light of there being no military power that can stand in the face of Israel at the present time,” he added.

I guess it all depends on whether or not you consider Fox news to be a reliable news source, or not.

Iraq envoy backtracks on Arab action again... JPost - Middle East

And the Daily News of India is reporting that Reuters, who originally printed the story, is now back-tracking, and saying that the Iraqi envoy claims now he never said that.

Crude Jumps 2.7% as Middle East Simmers

Crude-oil futures jumped 2.7% Monday after fighting between Israel and Palestinian militants intensified, raising the threat of a broader conflict in the oil-rich Middle East.
Israeli airstrikes Monday hit crowded areas of the Gaza Strip, targeting the homes of Hamas activists and raising the Palestinian death toll to more than 90. Meanwhile, Hamas fighters fired dozens more rockets at Israel.
Thousands of Israeli troops are gathering on the Gazan border in preparation for a ground invasion even as regional leaders tried to broker a ceasefire.
Oil traders are watching the situation closely, concerned Egypt or other nations could be drawn into the fighting, leading to a disruption of crude-oil shipments through ports and pipelines.
"Nobody knows if there will be a ceasefire. Nobody wants a war, but nobody seems to know how to stop it," said Phil Flynn, an energy analyst at Price Futures Group. "If it does spread, that would be a concern" for oil markets.

The drilling process that has brought U.S. energy independence within reach faces renewed scrutiny from the Obama administration and an uncertain future in many states.

Oil and gas industry leaders remain enthusiastic yet cautious that hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as "fracking," will be fully embraced by the newly re-elected President Obama and state leaders.
Fracking is a controversial but highly successful practice that has unlocked massive amounts of fuel. Endorsements from Mr. Obama and state leaders would make fracking the cornerstone of U.S. energy policy for decades to come.
