Oil Slick Stuff

If the guys working these ships live in Venezuela they probably live like kings there. I don't imagine just anyone gets entrusted with responsibility for that kind of cargo.

An Oil Contract is a contract...so what?

And Buster, as much as the truth may pain you, you're right about Chavez the Humanitarian...taking care of our poor more than our own gov't does.
So not sure what your point is.

Help from Hugo Chavez: Free Heating Oil for Needy U.S. Families

Close to 200,000 poor families in 15 cold-weather states -- in every Northeastern state except New Hampshire -- can thank controversial Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez for helping them heat their homes this winter.

That was nothing more than publicity stunt and an attempt to undermine the US Government.

You would think so, huh? But most of those jobs are actually provided by the evil oil companies. Every day Venezuelans usually don't get those jobs. Why? You may ask. A myriad of reasons. They do fill alot of the other ship positions. But, a comparable country Brazil does publicly list those captains jobs and the captains make about 70,000 BRL (converted to USD is about $39K). Not a bad living if you can hack it and is generally an upper-middle class wage just like here in the U.S.

Now the second part of your post is the meat. Why don't Venezuelans get entrusted with that responsibility? Why indeed? Think it has anything to do with what I posted? Interesting.

My whole post was predicated by the word "if". At any rate, Venezuelan oil is from a state run oil company. I have no idea who actually captains or works on the ships. Or for that matter what nationality they are or where they reside. As such I have no idea what the particular qualifications for obtaining such employment would be. Therefore my comment as indicated above, and yours, are pure speculation.

But yes, interesting to think about, from both angles.

Mapper, with all due respect. Your summation may have been speculation. You are relatively new here, and I dig your style and enjoy your posts. But there is and never will be anything I write about Central and South America on this site or any other that is speculation (maybe jokes,etc.). I am confident that I know exactly how things work down there in first hand fashion. No offense intended.
