Oil Slick Stuff

U.S. Gas Fields Go From Bust to Boom

CADDO PARISH, La. -- A massive natural-gas discovery here in northern Louisiana heralds a big shift in the nation's energy landscape. After an era of declining production, the U.S. is now swimming in natural gas.
Even conservative estimates suggest the Louisiana discovery -- known as the Haynesville Shale, for the dense rock formation that contains the gas -- could hold some 200 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. That's the equivalent of 33 billion barrels of oil, or 18 years' worth of current U.S. oil production. Some industry executives think the field could be several times that size....

If they (meaning one of our car makers) would start building nice medium sized cars, that run on CNG like UPS trucks do for example..I would drive one..

EXACTLY and doesn't cost much to convert an ordinary gasoline motor. All we need is LNG tanks at he filling stations. OK OBAMA start installing the tanks and building the LNG 18 wheelers!!!
Don't hold your breath!! upset.gif

Crude edges higher on recovery hopes

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Oil futures ended Thursday's volatile trading slightly higher, extending their monthly gain to nearly 3%, as hopes for an economic recovery offset worries over excessive inventories.
Oil followed stock markets higher after the Labor Department reported first-time claims for state unemployment benefits fell to their lowest level since early April.

Just keeping up with my usual Gasoline price bitchin..:D

Notice, Oil has only went up a dollar or two in the past week...BUT!..Gasoline jumped another GD dime again..WTF!?!:mad:

That is crazy trickle up BS!!!...at this rate of .10/$1.00 of crude increase..if crude were to rise to lets say, to $100.00/bbl..add that to the 2.00/gallon now..that would make gasoline around $7.00/gal

Oil settles above $53; manufacturing declines slow

Crude prices settle above $53 as manufacturing sector shows signs of healing

NEW YORK (AP) -- Oil prices finished the week with a late surge above $53 a barrel as traders looked past tepid economic reports and latched onto signs that U.S. manufacturing was on the mend.

Heavy industry is a major energy consumer and layoffs and factory shutdowns have resulted in huge stockpiles of unused natural gas and crude. As a result, crude prices have plunged to about half of what they fetched last summer, but they've edged up throughout this week.

Benchmark crude for June delivery rose $2.08 to settle at $53.20 a barrel Friday on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Prices climbed as high as $53.65 a barrel earlier in the day, the highest oil has been in a month.

Despite Slump, Major US Oil Cos Forge Ahead with Investment

HOUSTON (Dow Jones Newswires), May 4, 2009
The weak quarterly results of major U.S. oil companies show they are not immune to lower oil and gas prices and the economic downturn. But their decision to keep investing billions in capital projects reflects optimism about an eventual rebound in energy markets.
These companies' commitment to long-haul projects, although key to shoring up their hydrocarbons production and reserves, comes at a price: fewer perks for shareholders in terms of dividend increases and share buybacks, and an increase in debt as lower revenues result in constrained cash flows.

I thought the problem with Natural Gas vehicles is that you need a much bigger tank to get the same amount of miles per tank as with regular gas (which is why we have natural gas busses but not cars)? Also I heard Natural gas tanks needed platinum, but is true of all catalytic converters so that may not be a natural gas problem but just an overall expense.

For all of us on the East coast along the Louisiana pipeline, it's good news. Though I bet Orleans is really really really unhappy they weren't allowed to get the bennies like Alaska got.

You're right as usual SB, bigger tank less miles. That's not the BIG PROBLEM!! Not too many LNG filling stations is the biggie!!! LOts of info on the internet about the subject.
Though the CNG tank is larger than regular gasoline tank, you get fewer miles per liter because the CNG tank is considered empty when pressure drops below a low limit. Hence it actually carries less usable fuel per volume of tank. You may experience a mileage loss per full tank of 35% as compared to regular gasoline. Another disadvantage is also you will typically have half the trunk space because of the space taken by the CNG cylinder. [more]

Hi all, I currently reside in the Philippines. Just to add to the conversation; alot of the toyota corolla taxis here use LPG. They put the tank in the trunk. They have to fill up more often but it's very clean. It cost here about $500 to convert to LPG. I didn't do it on my Toyota van cause for long driving it would require me to fill up more often and the speed would also be reduced. One guy I spoke to here said he saves about 50% on fuel costs. It's really good around Manila cause traffic is heavy and you can't go that fast anyway. But if travelling long distance your speed is slower. Unleaded gasoline here cost about $2.80 per gal. LPG is about 1/2. It would be great for one vehicle for just commuting; but since I'm retired I don't need to commute. Just cruise!

All good points about LPG and CNG..So to look at the prudence,

CONS: One would get less mileage, less power and fill up more often so ultimately you would not save any money..

PROS:..Cleaner for the environment.

Hell with it, I'll stick with my liquid gasoline or Diesel burning cars..

Cheaper and CLEANER, sounds like a WIN WIN to me!!View attachment 6243
I maybe misreading you..But yes, It would be cleaner..but it would not be any cheaper since you are buying more often to go the same distance..in fact, in the long run it would cost you more to run on LPG or CNG..with less power too I might add..

Anywho...Tonight I was clued in by my local neighborhood 7-11 to gas up, because they were fixin to raise the price another .12 tonight...This is really stupid!!!!!..we are gonna be right back where we were last summer when nobody could afford to drive..
