Obama plans to scrap government buildings

This is so dumb. He wants to creat a new board to handle what my agency already takes care of? I thought he wanted to consolidate the government and not have multiple agencies doing the same thing?

It now takes, on average, three years from the time a property has been identified as no longer needed, until it can be sold, IF it makes it through the current process. There are currently a ton of rules on how real property is disposed of, depending on which agency owns it.

From the article:
In fiscal year 2009, the most recent year for which numbers are available, 45,190 buildings were categorized by the government as underutilized. On top of those, 10,327 were counted as "excess" or unwanted.

If they can reduce and eliminate the unneeded rules- that's a good thing.

The proposal would streamline the process and reduce it to a matter of days instead of years. It would save huge sums of money as well.
