New to the stock market and need some advice

Honestly it's more regulatory nonsense from the Obama team - I would look for the new congress to get involved and reduce some of those job destroying regulations. I have a number of drillers in my portfolio and I plan to hold all of them. Hercules Offshore (HERO) is a valuable asset to the regional economy and they will in my opinion prevail. The more it goes down I'd be inclined to buy more - energy is not getting cheaper. They could eventually be a buy out from a white knioght like Rowan (RDC) which I own a pile of. Most environmentalist liberals are just a pain.

I chuckled at your first sentence, I agree with you 100%. So you really think I should buy more if it falls lower. That is good to know, and I just might do that if i get some extra cash. I never knew a whole lot about drilling and oil but after purchasing this stock I am reading and learning. Seems that off shore deep water drilling is more valuable as a stock than the shallow water but again I am no expert just getting ideas from the articles.

This reminds me of the time Ted Kennedy was photo'd out on one of his boats (Naked) with a couple of his girl friends (Naked) all hanging ten on the poop deck.. When the photos hit the press, Alabama Senator Howell Heflin joked he was glad to see Kennedy had "changed his position on offshore drilling.:D

Hi Birchtree, It's been awile and I was just wondering if you held on to "C" and how you felt about the stock split. I have held on to my original 100 shares that I purchased when it was 3.22 a share but haven't purchased anymore. Since the split I of course have less shares and the price is much higher a share now. Curious to know your take and if you think it is something to still hold.

if you plan to get into trading, the best advice i can give you is come up with your own system and stick with it, don't let emotions drive your decisions. i've lost money more often than not when I deviated from my strategy out of fear or greed.

trading shouldn't be a stressful thing, pick your shots and respect stop loss. you won't win em all, don't take any losses personally. just improve your system until you start winning more than you lose. no matter how sound your strategy gets, you can't win them all. taking a losing trade doesn't always mean you did something wrong, the market can sometimes do weird things.

and finally when in doubt, wait. sometimes the best thing you can do is do nothing. don't worry if you missed an opportunity, the market will still be there tomorrow, next week, next month, next year... you get the point

Daisy,

All I need is 10 more points on C and I'll be in the profit zone - I expect to be there sometime before Hell freezes over.
